Black Hills Stock Show presented the Summer Spectacular Horse Sale on June 12 at the James Kjerstad Event Center on the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City, SD. This was the third annual summer sale and the first year the sale was held in conjunction with the Ranch Heritage Challenge Show. The Ranch Heritage Show brought in some new consignors and spectators, making for a nice crowd of buyers for the sale.

There was a great selection of ranch, rodeo and just plain riding horses in the sale. A horse to fit most every horse enthusiast's needs. With horses selling in most all price ranges to meet the buyers' needs.

Topping the sale was lot 30, Commander Striker, a 2009 Palomino gelding from Turner Performance Horses, East Helena MT. This horse is by Commandalena X Smart Chick Olena X Smart Little Lena on the top and out of a Grays Starlight X Peppy San Badger mare. Been used on the ranch and ready to go to the arena, this horse is full of potential. Jason Baumeister, Piedmont, SD was the buyer at $27,500.

Lot 23, Ichis Bright Star, a 2010 chestnut gelding by Cat Ichi X High Brow Cat and out of a Grays Starlight X Doc Olena mare sold at $19,000. This horse was trained as a cutter and is ready to haul in the heeling. Consigned by JD and Veronica Gerard, Kennebec, SD and purchased by Troy and Kelli Tavegie, Newcastle, WY

Lot 22, TJS Diamond Pepper, a 2011 blue roan gelding consigned by Robert Patten, Plaza, ND was the next high seller at $12,000. This big, eye appealing ranch gelding is out of Pepper Joe Hancock X Hancocks Blueboy X Mr. Roan Hancock on the top side, and on the bottom he is our of a Scorpion A Leo x Indigo Sweetheart. Rex Bingham, Ord, NE was the buyer.

Lot 15, Frenchmans Doc Flury, a 2001 Palomino gelding is a finished head horse that has been in the PRCA Badlands circuit finals, SDRA finals, NCRA finals, and NDRA finals along with winning plenty in weekend ropings for $12,000 to Myron Mann, Box Elder, SD. This horse was consigned by Tucker McDaniel, Midland, SD.

Lot 16, Wired Dandy from Kevin and Ashlee Jaeger, Newell, SD sold to James Martin, Newell, SD for $10,000. This 2007 Chestnut gelding is sired by Dun Its Gold Dandy going back to Hollywood Dun It on the top X a Mac Flit, Flit N Freckles bred mare. This horse works both ends in the team roping and has a great stop breakaway, plus has seen the country as a ranch horse.

Lot 31, Any Cats Smart from Wagonhound Land & Livestock, Douglas WY was the next high selling horse at $9,750. This 2014 sorrel gelding is sired by WR This Cats Smart X High Brow Cat and High Brow Hickory on the top side and a Playgun X Freckles Playboy, Peptoboonsmal bred mare. This colt was started right, sharp looking and would be a great prospect to take in any direction. Elvis and Jackie Eatzel, Killdeer, ND were the buyers.
