Big Sky Classic launches Quarter Horse show season

The Montana Quarter Horse Association show season gets underway on May 25-27, with the Big Sky Classic at Copper Spring Ranch, Bozeman, MT. The event launches a series of shows across the Big Sky state for dozens of western and English exhibitors.

With 111 classes, the approved show at CSR features a different judge each day during a cross section of classes that run the gamut from halter classes for mares, stallions and geldings, to showmanship, hunter under saddle and hunt seat equitation, trail and western riding. Other classes include ranch horse pleasure, western pleasure, horsemanship, reining, barrels, poles and a stakes race. Under the class outline, there are specific classes for youth and novice youth, amateurs and open exhibitors.

The show begins each day at 8 a.m. with the halter classes.

Approved by AQHA, MSQHA, MQHA, and MQHYA, the show at Bozeman is the first of seven shows in Montana that are being staged during the summer prior to the AQHA Region 2, Championship Show in Rapid City, SD, on Sept. 19-22.

Mark Gwynn of Berthoud, CO, is the judge for the May 25, show, Dave Denniston of Mead, CO, is judging the May 26, show and Denny Thorsell of Burbank, Ohio is the judge of the May 27, show.

The entry deadline is May 28, with a late fee of $10 per horse after that date. Stalls are $75 for the circuit or $30 per night. Hookups are $25 per night. Stall and RV hookup inquiries should be sent to the show secretary.

The flat entry rate show fee is $130 per judge. Per-class fees are $16 for all open, youth and amateur classes; $12 for novice amateur and novice youth and $10 for youth 20 and under.
