It’s hard to believe that March is past half over already and Easter is upon us. The grass is greening and the birds are singing, and it sure looks like spring is here. Some of the region got a nice layer of wet snow recently so they are getting some good soaking moisture.

Platte Livestock, Platte, South Dakota will be having a horse sale on Saturday, April 2. Performance horses will be shown at the Yellow Rose Arena, then the sale will start at noon with the ride in horses, followed by loose horses. For more information call 800-337-4289.

The Howard Hunter Memorial Match Bronc Ride will be at the James Kjerstad Event Center, Rapid City, S.D. on April 22 at 7 p.m. The invitational classic match is seeking help with funding through a GoFundMe account, so if you can help them out, please check that out. Howard was a great saddle bronc rider and competed for four decades before an injury sidelined him. Howard died of cancer about a year ago.

The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame, Big Timber, Montana, is seeking nominations for 2016 inductions.

Nominees can be men, women, ranches, stagecoach lines, animals hotels or anything else that has played a significant role in Montana’s western heritage. Information on the criteria can be found on http://www.montanacowboyfame.org. You can also call 406-932-5444 or email to Christy@montanacowboyfame.org. The deadline for nominations is April 30.

The Rebel Run Barrel series at the brand new arena at Crosby, N.D. has set their dates. It’s an Open 4D and Youth 3D and all dates except the finals are double headers. The Interior Roping Club is holding their 2nd Annual Badlands Stache Bronc and Bull Bash on May 29. The requirement to compete is, of course, a moustache, and it’s best if that cool ‘stache is accompanied by some stylish polyester from back in the ‘70s. The photos from last year’s event show some pretty amazing getups and fabulous facial fuzz, so get started on that ‘stache and be ready to enter!

The Rickey Greene Power Team Roping Clinic will be June 11-12 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, Buffalo, Wyo. Rickey is a great teacher of ropers and trainer of many NFR horses, so it’s sure a worthwhile clinic to attend. It will cost $450. You can get further info by calling 307-272-4215.

The Sidney Saddle Club, Sidney, Mont., is sponsoring a Judy Myllymaki barrel clinic on June 13-14. It will be for barrel racers of all ages and levels. It’s only $300 for the two days, and there is room for 20 riders. You can audit for $25/day. A $100 deposit is required to hold your spot and full payment is due by June 1. For more information you can call Tanya Candee at 701-260-1847.

This is a good time to be getting those stud colts made into nice geldings. They’ll be nicer citizens and get bigger than if you leave them a stud longer. Plus you won’t risk getting those “surprise” foals next spring that are sired by your “but he’s not old enough to breed a mare” colt.

I hope you have a wonderful Easter and give the focus of the season to it’s true meaning of Christ’s crucifixion on the cross and His resurrection after three days. He died for all of our sins, that we should have everlasting life. It’s not about bunnies and pretty eggs. It’s about eternity.
