SD to host PRCA rodeo events
World Champions, Badland Circuit Champions, College Champions and High School Champions all are coming to compete in SD’s biggest nine day rodeo event in Rapid City, SD starting January 29th through February 6th in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center’s Barnett Arena.
The 39th annual event will showcase some of the nation’s strongest competitors as they compete for World Standings and over $330,000 in cash & prizes. The schedule includes PRCA elite events; (2) PRCA Xtreme Bull Tours, (5) PRCA Rodeos, SD High School 20X High School Rodeo, PRCA Timed Event Slack, KBHB Bucking Horse Sale and the PRCA Wrangler’s Champion Challenge, one of ten exclusive rodeos in a team series featuring the top competitors in the world that will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
Since 1978, this rodeo has been renowned as one of the country’s leading platforms for men and women to test their skill, training, and dedication. Rapid City’s PRCA Rodeo, nominated 16 times for the “PRCA” Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year”, has won this prestige’s award twice. It also won the Badland’s Circuit “2013 Rodeo of the Year”. This is a reflection of the top quality competitors and rodeo personnel that work this event. PRCA’s 2014 Announcer of the Year, Wayne Brooks and Justin McKee, “Voice of the PBR”, will be calling the rodeo action. They will be joined by 6X Canadian Clown of the Year, Dennis Halstead and Justin Rumford, PRCA’s 2015 Clown of the Year & Coors Man in the Can.
Over 600 World Champions, WNFR and Circuit Champions contestants led by SD’s World Champion Barrel Racer, Lisa Lockhart and World Champion Saddle Bronc Chad Ferley. 2015 World Champions Steven Peebles, Bareback; Dakota Eldridge, Steer Wrestling; Luke Brown & Kollin VonAhn, Team Roping and Sage Kimzey, Bull Riding all will be in town competing for the purse.
There is something for everyone with the free to the public Touchtone Energy Safety Seminars, a college fair for high school rodeo students and Rodney Yost Horsemanship Clinics, one of the state’s top horse trainers.
You’ll also want to watch the four-legged competitors at this year’s event. Sutton Rodeo was awarded all three categories of 2015 Badlands Circuit Livestock of the Year; Bareback, Crystalyx, Saddle Bronc, South Point and Bull of the Year, Tea Time. 2015 WNFR Chuckulator (2012 PRCA Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year and WNFR), Bartender, Prom Night and Cactus Juice will be entered along with stock from five top PRCA stock contractors.
