UNL Rodeo Association to host 57th annual rodeo
April 8, 2015
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Rodeo Association will host the 57th annual UNL Rodeo April 17-18 at the Lancaster Event Center.
UNRA is primarily run by students, who organize and raise funds for the event. Students must purchase fuel, stock and feed, hire safety professionals and rent the event space. UNRA forms committees such as hospitality, promotion, education and production to ensure every detail is handled.
"The process teaches you a lot about how to build your self-character," said UNRA president and senior animal science major Bryce Dibbern. "You have to go out of your comfort zone when you raise money."
UNRA members have many responsibilities beyond that of a normal student. "We ask that our students come to school, represent themselves, represent the rodeo and represent UNL," said UNRA adviser Jamie Bauman. "It's fun to see their hard work pay off through this event."
The UNL Rodeo is held each year during CASNR Week, a celebration of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. CASNR Week is planned, organized and executed solely by students.
The rodeo will bring hundreds of contestants and fans to Lincoln. On April 16, Pizza Ranch in Lincoln will donate 20 percent of its profits that night to UNRA, upon request of customers.
