We’re still praying for some good rains here on Dry Creek. The surface and a couple of inches on the top are sure dry, but some recent fencing activity showed me that at least there is good subsoil moisture underneath. Day after day of wind sure starts sucking that up though. There have been some really good rains not too far off, so perhaps it’s moving closer and we’ll get some while the grass is still growing.
The Preakness Stakes was run last weekend and the favored Nyquist was beat out at the end by the fast closing Exaggerator. I’m not trying to take anything away from the winner, because he made a spectacular closing drive to win, but Nyquist was found to have a fever the next day or two after the race, so maybe he wasn’t quite at the top of his game in that race. They’re both really nice horses and I was happy for the winner. Nyquist has been pulled from the Belmont due to his being sick. So now, I guess I’m rooting for Exaggerator.
