The 41st Annual Lopez, Meyer & Lauing Quarter Horse Production Sale was held in Faith, South Dakota, on Saturday September 3. Buyers filled the barn to the rafters and phone bidders participated from over nine states including Texas as Lynn Weishaar auctioneered and John E. Johnson was in charge of the pedigrees.
78 head of weanlings, yearlings and broke horses sold to the highest bidders from Bob & Karen Meyer of Glad Valley S.D., Denny & Doris Lauing (Lauing Mill Iron L Ranch) of Sturgis S.D., and Lee Lopez of Meadow S.D. Guest consigners included Bob & Jan Quickstad of Whitewood, Scott, Kaden & Clara Pazour of Ft. Pierre, Archie Hulm of Timber Lake, Jerry Mayer of Sturgis, Hime Bourk of Sturgis, Jesse Dale of Timber Lake, and Blaine Humble of Faith.
Guest Consigners, Bob and Jan Quickstad topped the sale with Lot 61, Eye Bounce Chex, a palomino filly (Fly the Red Eye X Chex To Bounce), making a new home with Erin Knox in Texas for $5,400.
Lot 26, Frosty Taggun, a dun stud colt (sired by SNW Northern Frost X Frosts Pretty Polly) of Bob and Karen Meyer’s program followed claiming $3,300 going to Archie Hulm, a repeat buyer from Timber Lake S.D.
Lot 57, DL Peppys Down Dash, a palomino stud colt from Denny and Doris Lauing, brought $2,600 selling to buyers from Iowa.
The reception of the buyers for the yearlings was outstanding. Lot 60 LL Frenchmans Peppy (sired by the Lauings’ stallion, Frenchmans Hickory X LL My Gray Peppy Gal) a gray gelding consigned by Hime Bourk of Sturgis sold for $2,000.
The two highest selling broke horses were offered by consigner Archie Hulm, Lot 72, Rugged Jack, a 2011 Buckskin Gelding (WC Driftwood Buck X Larks Shorty Lena,) sold as a weanling in this sale from the Meyers topped the register at $15,500 as a 5 year old. Purchased by James Swenson, N.D.
Lot 70, Starlights Dell sold at $7,750 to be the second high selling gelding, (Starlights Lenny X Dells Revenita) also originating from the Meyers’ program, selling to Price and Stangle.
Lot 59, a 2011 gray gelding (Frenchmans Hickory X Comos Doc Freckles) consigned by Scott and Clara Pazour brought $7,000, this horse was bred by Denny and Doris Lauing selling to Colin LaMont.
Jerry Mayer’s 2 year old bay gelding, DL Guys Master Hand, bought as a foal at this same sale from the Lauings, (Colonel Frenchman X Miss Frenchmans Lady) dazzled the crowd with trainer Sarah Moreland and her trustworthy cow dog atop selling at $5,250 to Bub Thompson.
