Randy and Marj Schmidt own Schmidt Cattle Co., located north of Gordon, Nebraska. They produced an outstanding set of yearling Charolais bulls at their annual sale. A big crowd was on hand on a beautiful spring day.

The quality ran very deep into this sale, with several bulls in the last pen still bringing good money.

Many repeat (very loyal) customers were on hand for this year’s sale, as well as other registered purebred breeders.

This family also feeds a good number of commercial Charolais cross calves that Randy tries to purchase from his bull customers. It is truly a beautiful sight for these ranchers to see their calves on feed.

Topping this year’s sale was Lot 23, selling for $15,500 to Zeisler Charolais from Butte, Nebraska. This son of LT Ledger 0332P was out of a daughter of TR PZC NC Crossfire 1763. Born at 90 pounds, he weaned at 794 pounds to ratio 116, and posted a yearling weight of 1506 pounds to ratio 120, with an average daily gain of 4.45 pounds a day. His EPDs were BW 0.6, WW 45, YW 89, MILK 8, TM 30, CW 25, REA 0.59, Marb 0.28, and Fat 0.20.

Another popular bull was Lot 142, a son of 2TM Maximizer 22, and out of a dam by WCR Sir Prince 9166P. With a final bid of $11,000, Domek Charolais from Wibaux, Montana, became his new owner. With a 94 pound birth weight, he weaned at 773 pounds to ratio 113, and grew to a yearling weight of 1424 pounds to ratio 113. His EPDs were BW 0.4, WW 43, YW 71, MILK 10, TM 32, CW 22,and REA 0.43.

Dennis Hulm from Meadow, South Dakota, chose Lot 198 at $9750. Here was a son of Raile J827 A005, who was out of a daughter of JLS Boost 017S. Entering the world at 88 pounds, he weaned at 811 pounds to ratio 119, and reached a yearling weight of 1533 pounds to ratio 122. His ADG was 4.51 pounds per day, and he had EPDs of BW 0.4, WW 50, YW 94, MILK 10, CW 30, and REA 0.45.

Lot 205 sold for $9000 to repeat buyers, Kirk and Ellie Otte, Gordon, Nebraska. This bull was a son of SCC Prince 127B PLD, and out of a daughter of Schurrtop E423-C055P. His EPDs were BW 2.5, WW 63, YW 108, MILK 12, TM 43, CW 29, and REA 0.48.

The J. H. Minor Co. from Hyannis, Nebraska was back this year, and purchased Lot 20 at $8500. Sired by ZKCC 301A ET, he was out of a dam by WCR Sir Prince 34Z PLD. Hitting the ground at 89 pounds, he weaned at 718 pounds, and posted a yearling weight of 1307 pounds.

It was another good sale for this Charolais family!
