Average: 120 ylg Angus bulls – $7,135
Great weather, a great cattle market, and a great herd of Angus cattle helped produce the best sale ever in 38 years for Maher Angus. This herd was started by Dan and Gloria Maher, and now is managed and produced by Casey and Gina Maher and their active family.
The Mahers incorporate many of their home-raised herd sires into the breeding program. This way they know that the sires have sound mothers with excellent traits of fertility, soundness, udders, and disposition. I wish everyone could walk through this outstanding set of bulls to see the dispositions of each of these animals.
One of their main home-raised herd sires is MAR Innovation 251, and he is now a feature sire at Genex Cooperative, Inc. at Shawano, Wisc. As you note the high sellers listed below, you will also see other high quality, highly sought after herd sire groups being utilized at the Maher Ranch.
The ranch is east of Lemmon, South Dakota, right along the North Dakota border. This is the third sale held in their new sale barn, and everything was working like clockwork as all 120 bulls were sold in 1 hour and 28 minutes. The familiy hosted a huge crowd of many repeat buyers, as well as several new faces. It looked like this big crowd was going to hang around, as the Maher family laid out quite a spread for their loyal customers after the sale.
The top selling bull of the day was Lot 003, MAR Accounabull Windy 0034, selling for $15,500 to the Schmidt Angus Ranch, Solen, North Dakota.
