Badlands Genetics Plus Annual Red Angus Production Sale

The Badlands Genetics Plus crew held their annual production sale at Stockmen’s Livestock, Dickinson, North Dakota on Feb. 6. The families of Bill and Sharon Ceynar, Seth and Lacy Cargo along with Paul and Sandy Fehrman were welcomed by a large, and very aggressive bidding crowd, giving them their most successful sale to day.
This program is kind of a hidden gem that has been slightly under the radar the last few years. The cowherds that make up Badlands Genetics Plus have been strictly culled and are focused on calving ease, total performance and soundness without sacrificing length, and thickness. This set of sale bulls were thick and stout with plenty of growth, fleshing ability, length and most of all eye appeal.
Topping the sale was lot 12, Badlands Soldier 457B, a March 6, 2014, son of Red SSS Soldier 365W. This bull is packed with performance, having a 205 day wt. of 866 pounds, 365 day wt. of 1,535 pounds and scanned a 15.1 REA. He has epds of BW 0.2 WW 68 YW 109 Milk 14. Brylor Ranch, Pincher Creek, AB, Canada was the buyer at $27,500.
Semex Beef, Guelph, ON and Wheeler Stock Farm, Saskatoon, Canada teamed up to purchase lot 20, PFFR Royal Flush 427, a Feb. 2014, son of 5L Solitaire 3796-33Y. This is another powerhouse bull with a moderate birthweight of 78 pounds, but weaned off at 904 pounds, yearling wt. of 1,555 pounds and epds of BW 0.0 WW 78 YW 125 Milk 18.
Selling at $24,500 was lot 1, PFFR Power Deal 428, a Feb. 2014, son of Badlands Opporrtunity 53Y with epds of BW 2.2 WW 101 YW 166 Milk 12. This bull had a 205 day wt. of 904 pounds and 365 day wt. of 1,569 pounds Wasem Red Angus, Halliday, North Dakota was the buyer.
Severance Red Angus, Palermo, North Dakota selected lot 9, Badlands Custom Made 419B, a Feb. 19, 2014, son of Brown JYJ Redemption Y1334 for $13,000. This calving ease prospect has epds of BW -2.0 WW 75 YW 139 Milk 24.
Lot 21, CSF Redemption 3B, a Feb. 12, 2014, son of Brown JYJ Redemption Y1334 with epds of BW -5.2 WW 58 YW 104 Milk 19 sold to Kurt Rich, Vinton, Iowa, for $11,000.
