Moisture, buyers, and high quality cattle were in no short supply in Miles City for the Currant Creek Angus Ranch Spring Bull Sale. With a firm conviction in the program, ranchers from all over put their operations on hold to show up and buy these bulls. For the money, these are some of the most sound and well-conditioned bulls a guy can find. They are made and developed to go and carve out their own living, but don’t let that statement scare you because they are some high gaining rascals. One has to appreciate what Currant Creek Angus Ranch has accomplished here, they’ve developed a high efficient animal that won’t take a lot of input but can still pack on the pounds to any and all progeny. My overall impression this spring is just that, impressed. Not only will these bulls last a lifetime but also they’ll look good doing it. Here is just a sampling of the top end:

Lot 8, CCAR Blackjack 4238, topped the sale at $8,250 to Steve Wyse of Manhattan, Montana. He’s sired by HA Blackjack 2312 and recorded EPDs of BW 2.6, WW 48, YW 84, and Milk 25. He was born 10/5/14 at 79 pounds and was 527 pounds at 205 days.

Lot 52, CCAR Sirloin C384, was next in line for Colby Cattle Co. of Morrill, Nebraska, at $8,000. This son of Vermilion Sirloin posted good EPDs of BW 1.8, WW 67, YW 108, and Milk 25. He was born 3/24/15 at 75 pounds and was a whopping 826 pounds at 205 days.

Selling for $7,500 was Lot 61, CCAR Discovery C070, to Sioux Pass Livestock of Lodge Grass, Montana. He’s a VAR Discovery 2240 son born 3/28/15 at 80 pounds with a 772 pounds 205. He has EPDs of BW 1.2, WW 62, YW 117, and Milk 34.

Victor Small of Lame Deer, Montana purchased Lot 25, CCAR Z605 G Opportunity 4117, for $7,000. He is a CCAR Golden Opportunity Z605 son with excellent EPDs of BW 0.6, WW 51, YW 85, and Milk 27. He was born 6/10/14 at 78 pounds and was 1406 pounds as a yearling.

Kyle Shaw of Miles City, Montana got his pick in Lot 31, CCAR 7275 Ideal 4116, for $7,000. He’s out of the now 9-year-old herd sire Ideal 7275 of 5V3 1431. He was born 9/25/14 at 71 pounds while tipping the scale at 616 pounds on his 205. He has EPDs of BW -0.2, WW 50, YW 88, and Milk 25.

Lot 68, CCAR Capitalist C484, was sold to Pumpkin Creek Ranch of Volberg, Montana for $7,000. He’s a son of Connealy Capitalist 028 with EPDs of BW 1.6, WW 57, YW 97, and Milk 17.
