51 yrlg and two-yr-old Charolais bulls – $3,494

Deerings’ Cheyenne Charolais brought another nice set of bulls to Philip Livestock. These bulls are not pushed, and are presented in modest flesh. The Cheyenne Charolais ranch is near Wasta, South Dakota, and along the Cheyenne River. Due to last spring’s flooding, parts of the herd ended up on opposite sides of the river, and changed the usual plans for timely grazing of certain pastures. Fences also needed replaced, but the calves did well, and Joel Deering continues to improve his herd.

Mostly all repeat buyers were on hand to compete for the top end of these bulls. The bulls are sold to some of the top commercial producers in South Dakota.

Every year Joe recognizes one of his top customers, and this year his “Producer of the Year” was Brady and Monte Schofield from Midland, South Dakota. They received a $2,000 discount for this sale, or for any sale in the future.

Joel offers one of the best guarantees in the business, and he keeps the bulls until May. Then he delivers them for free.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 7 at $7,250. He was a son of MC LM All In 223, and out of a daughter of Revelation. He had a 90 pound birth weight and a weaning weight of 605 pounds to ratio 103. His EPDs were BW -1.5, WW 28, YW 47, and a disposition score of 5, which is the top score and means he is a very calm bull that acts like a pet. This stout bull sold to Steve Thomas, Presho, South Dakota, longtime buyer of Cheyenne Charolais bulls.

Lot 2, a yearling, sold for $7,000 to Mike Ritschard from Kremmling, Colorado. This yearling bull was a son of Sir Duke 330 and out of an Alliance dam. Born at 92 pounds, he weaned at 667 pounds to ratio 113. He reached a yearling weight of 1,253 pounds to ratio 111. His EPDs included BW 0.4, WW 38, YW 60, and a disposition score of 5.

Mike Ritschard was also the winning bidder for Lot 65, another yearling, also at $7000. Here was a son of MC All In and out of a Tenacious daughter. He had an 87 pound birth weight, a weaning weight of 635 pounds, and a yearling weight of 1,275 pounds to ratio 113. His EPDs were BW -1.6, WW 32, and YW 55.

Steve Thomas also selected Lot 3 at $6,500. This son of JAB Bullet In the Gun 102 pld ET was out of a Justice 504 daughter. With a 90 pound birth weight, he weaned at 635 pounds, and grew to a yearling weight of 1,403 pounds.

Lot 5 sold for $5,750 to Brady Schofield, Midland, South Dakota. Sired by 2H TLC Copperhead 102Y pld, he was out of a Corona daughter. His EPDs were BW 2.1, WW 34, and YW 55.

Chuck O’Connor from Philip, South Dakota, bought Lot 18 at $5750. He was by WDZ Wind 016 pld ET, and out of a cow by Triple Ease.

All in all, a very good sale for the Deering family!
