Kenny Forster and family presented another great set of long age Red Angus bulls for their annual bull sale held at Stockmen’s Livestock Auction in Dickinson, ND. It sure was great to see Kenny mostly healed up after a terrible 4-wheeler accident last spring. The accident put Kenny in the hospital for most of the summer, so it really was refreshing to see him getting back to most of the daily chores.
This is a very functional real-world set of bulls. Most are born in May, weaned in Nov. and wintered on mostly hay till spring, then turned out to grass. They are supplemented a little for a couple weeks prior to the sale to add a bit of extra shine. These bulls are not fat, finished bulls. They have been developed to produce breeding bulls that will stand the test of time in the breeding pasture. They are sound and hard bodied.
Topping the sale was lot 9, Forster Gold Rush A031, a May 3, 2013, son of RHRA Gold Rush 402 17T with epds of BW -0.8 WW 55 YW 82 Milk 28. This bull weaned off at 692 pound to ratio 111 with a yearling ratio of 103 and 111 IMF, a high performance calving ease, carcass bull all tied into one attractive package. Arrowsmith Red Angus, Bassett, Nebraska, was the winning bidder at $32,000.
Selling at $18,000 was lot 2, Forster Endorse A032, a May 3, 2013, son of Red SSS Endorse 639X with epds of BW 1 WW 56 YW 97 Milk 17. 7N Ranch, Medina, North Dakota, was the buyer.
