Gary and Kirsten Friedt and family held their annual Hereford production sale at the Stockmen’s West Livestock Auction on Feb. 11. There was a really nice crowd of buyers on hand for the sale, giving the Friedt family a very successful day.

The goal of Friedt Herefords is to raise sound, functional cattle that will excel in most any environment. The bulls were developed for longevity and soundness, not overfed, but in great shape for a mid February sale. The registered heifers were hard to part with; Gary said if he had more grass they would not be in town.

Topping the sale was lot 13, FH Navarro 446, a Feb. 2, 2014, son of the home raised herd sire FH Navarro 242. This bull had a weaning wt. of 705 pounds and yearling weight of 1,371 pounds with excellent eye pigmentation, thickness and eye appeal with epds of BW 3.7 WW 63 YW 116 Milk 27 M&G 59. Bert Hauge, New Town, North Dakota was the buyer at $10,000.

Hauge also picked up another FH Navarro 242 son at $6,750. Lot 4, FH Navarro 424 is a Jan. 24, 2014, bull calf out of a top CJH Harland 408 cow that has a 107 weaning ratio. This bull has epds of BW 3.2 WW 56 YW 97 Milk 29 M&G 57.

Two bulls sold for $6,500: Lot 3, FH L1 Domino 415 is a Jan. 16, 2014, son of H5 9131 Yankee 156 out of another high producing Harland cow that has weaned 6 calves at 104.8. Teddy Woods, Wibaux, Montana, was the buyer.

Lot 37, FH L1 Domino 384, a March, 2013, son of H5 001 Domino 819 that weighed in at over 1,600 pounds on sale day with 37.5 cm scrotal sold to Kevin Fugere, Belfield, North Dakota.

Selling at $6,000 was lot 9, FH Sensation 438, a 1/30/14 son of Churchill Sensation 028X to Bruce Entzi, Fredonia, North Dakota.

Two heifers sold at $3,500 each. Both were CL 1 Domino 124Y daughters that sold to Steve Bauer, Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
