There has been a lot to be thankful for this first week of May. Ranchers from all over the territory are rejoicing with the moisture, field men far and wide are praising that the bull sale season is finished, and the beef industry is definitely grateful for McDonnell Angus and all the hard work they put into making America’s largest herd of proven and tested efficiency Angus. There is a lot that goes into molding a program-oriented herd, especially capturing two important aspects of maternal to feedlot performance. Leo McDonnell has definitely done the background work and laid the foundation so that buyers can rest at ease that they are purchasing not just a bull; but also the entire program. It’s a confidence that is proven with the large amount of repeat buyers in the crowd. Of course these bulls have a knockout phenotype that give commercial guys the opportunity to build a fancy herd of high performing cattle themselves. The quality of big hipped, stretchy, cattle were matched with the hospitality and partnership of the McDonnell’s. Hats off to one whale of set bulls and a great way to end the spring. Here’s the cream:

Lot 36, McD Fortunate 506, topped the sale at $12,000 heading to Cardwell, Montana with Armstrong Angus. He’s a Sinclair Fortunate Son on the paternal side, born 3/9/15 at 78 pounds and posting a 729 pound Adj. WW. His EPDs include BW 0.3, WW 55, YW 106, and Milk 25.

Lot 14, McD Capitalist 502, was 6 Creeks Farm’s pick from Ekalaka, Montana for $9,500. Connealy Capitalist 028 sired this bull and BW 1.4, WW 69, YW 122, and Milk 19 are his EPDs. He was born 3/12/15 at 88 pounds and recorded a 737 pound Adj. WW.

Monte Mallett of Powderville, Montana took home one of my favorites in Lot 6, McD ECR Uno 41C of 7116, for $9,000. He’s out of the CCA Uno 049 sire and posted EPDs of BW 0.6, WW 58, YW 100, and Milk 31. He was born 3/6/15 at 90 pounds and had a 718 pound Adj. WW.

Lot 9, McD ECR Uno 26C of 194, was another favorite, captured by Monte Mallett for $8,750. He’s out of the good CCA Uno 049 sire and has EPDs of BW 1.3, WW 59, YW 106, and Milk 31. He was born 2/16/15 at 84 pounds and was 761 pounds on his Adj. WW.

Miller Angus Ranch of Scranton, N.D., bought Lot 2, McD 10X 589, for $6,500. Sired by AAR Ten X 7008 SA, he posted EPDs of BW 0.1, WW 59, YW 116, and Milk 27. He was born 3/19/15 at 84 pounds and posted 705 pounds on his Adj. WW.

$6,500 was the winning bid on Lot 31, McD Franchise 5102, and Lot 45, McD Performer 5332, for Six-Ess Ranch LLC of Ekalaka, Montana.
