It was a typical winter day, but a good crowd gathered at Philip Livestock to view and bid on the yearling Angus bulls offered by Luke and Elizabeth McPherson. These bulls are all raised on the McPherson Ranch, east of Sturgis, South Dakota. There was also a nice uniform group of yearling heifers offered by neighbors, Chase and Dean Smith.

Luke McPherson has advanced this herd through increased use of AI and embryo transfers. Disposition of the animals has been a priority, and this was quite evident as the bulls quietly paraded through the Philip Livestock sale ring.

Many repeat buyers were on hand, and the McPhersons can be proud that they sell bulls to some of the elite commercial cattlemen in western South Dakota.

Luke offers a full one year guarantee, and he winters the bulls free of charge until the first of May.

The top selling bull of the day was Lot 2, selling to Tom Simmons, New Underwood, South Dakota., for $10,750. He was MAR War Party 520, a son of Werner War Party 2417, and out of a daughter of Final Answer. His EPDs were CED 3, BW 2.3, WW 64, YW 111, MILK 33, MARB 0.50, RE 0.90, and $B 133.80. His mother ratioed 110 on two calves, and he weaned at 734 pounds to ratio 116.
