Sale day weather was beautiful, and only added to the look of the bulls as they were displayed out on grass. Mogck Angus Farms hosted a large crowd in their beautiful new sale barn for their annual bull sale.
This family of David and Candyce Mogck, along with their sons, Justin and his wife, Steph, and Brian and his wife, Dee, put their whole focus into the production of Angus Cattle.
They produced and bred the bull, MAF Tanker, who is a herd bull for Charles Mogck. This bull is the #1 bull in the Angus breed when combining the EPDs for weaning weight, yearling weight, $W, $F and CED, according to the latest young sire report. Fourteen of his sons sold in this sale.
This family also bred and showed the Reserve Division Champion “Pen of 3 Bulls” at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.
Top selling bull of the day was Lot 1, selling for $38,000 to ST Genetics, Navasota, Texas, and Dikoff Angus from Onaka, South Dakota. He was a son of MAF Tanker 23, and out of a daughter of Connealy Confidence. This bull was long, with depth of body, flank and hair. He had EPDs of CED 14, BW 0.8, WW 73, YW 132, and MILK 22. Born at 77 pounds, he weaned at 755 pounds, and had a yearling weight of 1,411 pounds. He had a 15.6 square inch ribeye.
Lot 35 was an outstanding bull to look at. He was moderate with a big top, big butt, and a huge tank in the middle. He sold for $15,000 to Conrad Kuipers from Academy, South Dakota. He was a member of the Denver Pen, and he was out of a flush from the Snowflake cow that is 10 years old, and still going strong. Lot 35 was sired by Barstow Cash, with EPDs of CED 8, BW 0.9, WW 66, YW 120, and MILK 24. He weaned at 800 pounds, and had a yearling weight of 1,430 pounds. His IMF was 4.93 percent to ratio 114.
Dusty Anderson, Maxwell Colony, and Munterfering Farms from Parkston, South Dakota, teamed up to buy Lot 32 at $13,000. He was another member of the Denver Pen, as well as the flush from Barstow Cash and the Snowflake cow. He had a weaning weight of 838 pounds and a yearling weight of 1,398 pounds.
The gavel fell at $10,000 with Lau Angus from Armour, South Dakota, becoming the new owner of Lot 26, a son of PVF Insight 0129, and out of a Lutton daughter. Born at 84 pounds, he weaned at 745 pounds, and reached a yearling weight of 1,318 pounds. He had a 16.1 square inch ribeye.
Tim Kessler from Leola, South Dakota, bought the Lot 75 bull at $17,500. He was a son of Silveiras Watchout 0514, and out of a daughter of LaGrand MAF Antidote. He was really easy to look at, and one of Justin’s favorites.
Lot 30 brought $8,500 from Mike Hughes, Rosanky, Texas. He was sired by PVF Insight 0129, and was a calving ease prospect.
