The Rathkamp family held their 42nd annual Pass Creek Angus Ranch bull sale at the ranch just south of Wyola, MT on a beautiful spring day. The setting was rustic and western and hospitality is hard to beat anywhere, from the home raised beef dinner to the after sale commodore.

The sale bulls were grown out, not overfed. They had natural thickness with an extra rib for length. Darrell Rathkamp and family have been raising Angus cattle in the valley for 56 years, focusing on raising bulls that will give their buyers the traits needed to survive in any environment.

Topping the sale was lot 4204, Pass Creek 1188 1346-4204, an Aug. 2014 son of the home raised sire, Pass Creek 9032 6108 1188. This bull has epds of CED 9 BW 0.1 WW 47 YW 96 Milk 21 and sold to Salt Creek Cattle Co., Edgerton, WY for $6500.

Selling at $5250 was lot 4183, Pass Creek 1421 5207 4183, an Aug. 2014 son of SA Romeo 1421 with epds of CED 7 BW -0.3 WW 48 YW 86 Milk 23, selling to Biddick Ranch, Laramie, WY.

Also at $5250 was Lot 4199, Pass Creek 001 991 4199 an Aug. 2014 son of Bovagene Exceller 001 selling to Victor Small, Lame Deer, MT.

Lot 15, Pass Creek 2488 360 5118, a Feb. 2015 son of SAV Final Answer 2488 with epds of CED 7 BW 1.3 WW 51 YW 93 Milk 26 sold to Brian Creek Cattle Co., Ashland, MT for $5,000.

Two bulls sold at $4,750 each.

Lot 4110, Pass Creek 6262 2117 4110 is an Aug. 2014 Connealy Impression son that weaned at 852 lb. and sold to Victor Small, Lame Deer, MT.

Lot 4137, Pass Creek 1188 7249 4137 an Aug. 2014 son of Pass Creek 9032 6108 1188 sold to Siewert Ranch, Huntley, MT.

This was a nice sale for the Rathkamp family, even though I thought the prices were under the value for the quality of the bulls and there were some bulls left over. Pass Creek Angus Ranch also has a guest ranch operation that they operate in the summer time. If you’re looking for an extra bull or two, or need a relaxing break, give them a call. F
