Ponca Creek Cattle Company is owned by Tom and Cindy Lillibridge, and assisted by Dwight Pepper. This herd has developed and bred some of the top Angus cattle in south central South Dakota.

This year’s sale brought a nice crowd and an active sale. I felt this set of bulls were the overall heaviest that I’ve seen this spring.

Ponca Creek Cattle has bred the bull, Ponca Creek Pepper, who is featured at ORIgen and Cottonwood Angus. They also bred Ponca Creek Black Eagle 106 who is featured at Baldridge Brothers.

The top selling bull of the day was Lot 10, selling for $19,000 to Dan and John Forgey, Dallas, S.D. He was a Feb. 21, 2014, son of Connealy Packer 547 and out of a Pathfinder daughter of Mohnen Modern Design. Born at 78 pounds, he weaned at 850 pounds to ratio 113, and posted a yearling weight of 1,266 pounds. With a 40.4 cm. scrotal measurement, his EPDs were CED 8, BW -0.1, WW 55, YW 89, CEM 10, MILK 28, MARB 0.52, RE 0.12, and $B 94.00.

Varilek Angus Ranch, Geddes, South Dakota, bought Lot 43 at $16,500. This son of CB Block Party 156 was out of a daughter of AAR Ten X 7008 SA who was a first calf heifer. He seemed to have all the right numbers. With an 80 pound birth weight, he weaned at 814 pounds to ratio 110, and grew to a yearling weight of 1,411 pounds to ratio 112. His EPDs were BW 3.2, WW 74, YW 130, MILK 31, MARB 1.02, RE 0.93, and $B 145.11. He had a 16.1 sq. in. rib eye and an IMF of 6.20 to ratio 147.

Lot 42 was a three-quarter brother to Lot 43, and sold for $10,000 to Larry Baumeister, Stuart, Nebraska. He was another son of CB Block Party and out of a first calf heifer by AAR Ten X 7008. He had a 78 pound birth weight, a weaning weight of 826 pounds to ratio 112, and a yearling weight of 1,381 pounds. His EPDs were BW 2.9, WW 73, YW 125, MILK 33, MARB 0.75, RE 0.75, and $B 135.03.

Hallock Cattle Company, Springview, Nebraska, chose Lot 12 at $9,750. He was by Connealy Packer 547 and from a TC Aberdeen 759 daughter. He was 83 pounds at birth, weaned at 768 pounds, and grew to a yearling weight of 1,403 pounds to ratio 110. His EPDs were BW 1.8, WW 62, YW 118, MILK 27, MARB 0.68, RE 0.72, and $B 124.61.

After some vigorous hand waving, Lot 23 was headed home with Steve Kubick, Hamill, South Dakota, for $9,000. He was an own son of SAV Final Answer 0035 and out of a daughter of B/R New Frontier 095. Born at 88 pounds he weaned at 776 pounds and attained a yearling weight of 1,309 pounds. His EPD profile included BW 1.7, WW 57, YW 99, MILK 26, MARB 0.60, RE 0.62, and $B 94.10.
