Urlacher Angus Annual Bull Sale
Date: Jan. 15, 2016
Location: Bowman Livestock Auction
Auctioneer: Seth Weishaar, Belle Fourche, SD
Reported by: Dan Piroutek
Average: 66 Two-year-old bulls – $5,439
Urlacher Angus, owned by Gregg and Mary Urlacher from Regent, North Dakota, hosted a big crowd for their best ever sale. I felt this was the best presentation of bulls that Urlachers have brought to town. They added Jack Seiben of J & R Feeds as a nutritionist, and the bulls really responded to his program.
These bulls are grown for longevity and not pushed along for extra weight. The repeat customers reported excellent results, and the Urlacher guarantee works well with these good, tough, two-year-old bulls. Their bulls are kept free of charge and fertility tested before delivery in May.
The sale stayed strong all the way through. I’ve had different customers tell me that the Urlacher bulls held up over the long haul, and they mature into outstanding bulls.
There were many repeat customers on the seats, and the sale moved along at a rapid pace, with ranchers gathering up these good two-year-old bulls.
The top selling bull of the day was Lot 13, selling for $10,000 to Don Miller, Raleigh, North Dakota. This son of Ellingson Aberdeen 9020 was out of a daughter of WAR Alliance 9126 6006. He weaned at 789 pounds to ratio 109, and he had a yearling weight of 1253 pounds.

Reuben Olson, Prairie City, South Dakota, has been a longtime customer of Urlacher bulls, and this year he bought Lot 6 at $8,500. This bull was a son of Tokach Upward 0113 and out of a Widespread daughter. Born at 85 pounds, he weaned at 743 pounds to ratio 110.
Lot 19 sold to Richard Clarys, Olive, Montana, for $8,500. Here was a son of Tokach Upward 0113, and was out of an Alliance daughter. With his 74 pound birth weight, he weaned at 758 pounds to ratio 105. His EPDs were BW 2.9, WW 61, YW 109, and MILK 25.
Reuben Olson also selected Lot 1, a bull sired by Koupals B&B Identity and out of a daughter of TC Power Stroke 4118. His EPDs were BW 2.7, WW 62, YW 107, and MILK 30. Born at 83 pounds, he sold for $8,500 when folks stopped waving their hands.
