Varilek Angus hosted another big crowd for their annual production sale, held at their ranch. The Varilek land lies along the breaks of the Missouri River, and this truly is one of the beautiful ranches in South Dakota.

These bulls are the complete deal in terms of performance, carcass quality, calving ease and maternal abilities. The 2-yr-old and fall bulls were big and long, and ready for heavy service.

This sale proved to be the best ever for this longtime Angus family. They again had some outstanding individual bulls that you will hear more from in the future. It seems that as every year passes, you see the Varilek name in more and more Angus pedigrees.

This was a fast-moving sale, and it stayed strong all the way to the end.

The top selling bull of the day was Lot 11, the yearling bull, Varilek Earnan 4101 62. He was a son of Connealy Earnan 076E, and out of a daughter of SAV Legacy 5216. Born at 87 pounds, he weaned at 872 pounds, and posted a yearling weight of 1,448 pounds. He scanned a rib eye area of 16.7 sq. in., and had an IMF of 4.91 percent. His EPDs were BW 1.9, WW 74, YW 120, MM 23, and $B 115.04. He sold to Mangen Angus, Broadus, Montana, for $24,000.

Koupals B&B Angus, Dante, South Dakota, and CRV-USA from Wisconsin paid $19,000 to own Lot 83, Varilek Impact 3225 25. This two-year-old bull was sired by Poss Total Impact 745, and out of a Pathfinder daughter of Connealy All Around who had ratioed 106 on four calves. Longtime repeat buyers, Leo and Ruby Astleford, White River, South Dakota, chose Lot 86, a two-year-old bull, at $15,000. After some aggressive bidding, Lot 47 sold for $15,000 to Bruns Angus, Madison, South Dakota. This stout yearling bull was sired by Varilek Aberdeen 0036 and out of a daughter of Connealy Freightliner. This bull had all the right growth statistics. He had an 86 pound birth weight, a weaning weight of 879 pounds, and a yearling weight of 1,538 pounds. His rib eye was 16.4 sq. in. and he had an IMF of 4.77 percent.
