A crisp March day didn’t deter buyers for coming out for another successful bull sale for Bruns Angus Farms in Madison, South Dakota. A hog roast of epic proportions kicked off the sale that brought in over $550,000 at Dan and Linda Bruns and family’s 27th bull sale.
High selling lot was #38, Bruns Payweight 1465, a February 2015 son of Basin Payweight 1682, for $24,000 bought by Krebs Angus of Gordon, Neb. This bull had a weaning weight of 890 pounds and ratioed 106, a yearling weight of 1,560, ratioed 109, and EPDs of CED 2, BEPD 1.8, WEPD 59, YEPD 107, CEM 8, Milk 27, $EN -41.14. Ultrasound measured at 3.76/90 %IMF/Ratio, 17.7/113 Ribeye/Ratio, 0.53/129 Rib Fat/Ratio, and 0.46/107 Rump Fat/Ratio.
Second best seller was #57, Bruns Titlest 65, a January 2015 son of S Titlest 1145, for $16,000 bought by Bussmus Angus of Mitchell, S.D. This bull had a weaning weight of 812 and ratioed 102, a yearling weight of 1,562 with an impressive 114 ratio, and EPDs of CED 10, BEPD -0.9, WEPD 67, YEPD 124, CEM 8, Milk 39, $EN -48.46. Ultrasound measured at 3.87/94 %IMF/Ratio, 14.0/93 Ribeye/Ratio, 0.42/105 Rib Fat/Ratio, and 0.45/105 Rump Fat/Ratio.
Third top selling lot was #2, Bruns Earnan 965, a January 2015 son of Connealy Earnan 076EC, for $14,000 bought by Williams Ranch out of Texas. This bull had a weaning weight of 889 and ratioed 112, yearling weight of 1,497 and ratioed 109, and EPDs of CED 1, BEPD 1.8, WEPD 69, YEPD 118, CEM 7, Milk 19, $EN -20.07. Ultrasound measured at 6.22/151 %IMF/Ratio, 14.7/97 Ribeye/Ratio, 0.60/150 Rib Fat/Ratio, and 0.52/121 Rump Fat/Ratio.
Next up was #33, Bruns Bullseye 485, a January 2015 son of Mogck Bullseye, for $12,500 bought by Chris Johnke of Mitchell, S. D. This bull had a weaning weight of 920 adjusted to a ratio of 116, yearling weight of 1550 adjusted to a ratio of 113, and EPDs of CED 2, BEPD 2.4, WEPD 78, YEPD 133, CEM 7, Milk 34, $EN -53.77. Ultrasound measured at 4.50/109 %IMF/Ratio, 15.5/103 Ribeye/Ratio, 0.41/103 Rib Fat/Ratio, and 0.37/86 Rump Fat/Ratio.
The fifth highest selling lots were a tie, selling each for $11,000. Lot #30, Bruns Bullseye 655, a January 2015 son of Mogck Bullseye, was bought by Butch Webb of Isabel, S. D. This bull had a weaning weight of 877 and ratioed 110, yearling weight of 1,447 and ratioed 106, and EPDs of CED 7, BEPD 0.5, WEPD 69, YEPD 112, CEM 11, Milk 32, $EN -30.17. Ultrasound measured at 5.26 /128 %IMF/Ratio, 14.2/94, Ribeye/Ratio, 0.56/140 Rib Fat/Ratio, and 0.33/77 Rump Fat/Ratio.
Lastly, Lot #6, Bruns Earnan 405, a January 2015 son of Connealy Earnan 076E, was bought by Mohnen Angus of White Lake, S. D. This bull had a weaning weight of 917 and ratioed 115, yearling weight of 1,536 and ratioed 112, and EPDs of CED -3, BEPD 3.5, WEPD 73, YEPD 139, CEM 5, Milk 21, $EN -24.58. Ultrasound measured at 2.99/73 %IMF/Ratio, 17.7/117 Ribeye/Ratio, 0.39/98 Rib Fat/Ratio, and 0.39/91 Rump Fat/Ratio.
