Robert and Kara Campbell and family along with Robert's dad Harold held the annual Campbell Red Angus production sale at Mobridge Livestock, Mobridge, South Dakota on Mar. 2, 2015. There was a stiff breeze blowing off the Oahe Dam to keep things cool outside, but the roads were good and travel was not a problem.
This was an outstanding set of bulls and open heifers that the Campbell family brought to town. This operation has not chased the fads of the "bull of the day," but has stayed true to breeding functional Red Angus cattle that will excel in all aspects of the beef industry. That was evident on sale day with a very consistent, even set of high quality bulls that were very well accepted by the large crowd of buyers on hand for the sale.
Topping sale was lot 94, CBR Moonshine 26048, an April 5, 2014 calving ease herd sire prospect sired by Red Crowfoot Moonshine 2116Z. This bull had a yearling weight of 1,276 pounds with an average daily gain of 4.01 and epds of BW -0.6 WW 63 YW 95 Milk 13. Forster Red Angus, Richardton, North Dakota was the buyer at $16,000.
Selling at $14,500 was lot 9, CBR Advance 0820-444, a 3/13/14 son of WDZ Hamley 111 that has a 1,249 pounds yearling weight, 4.07 average daily gain and epds of BW -0.1 WW 62 YW 104 Milk 15. Sodak Angus, Reva, South Dakota was the winning bidder.
Lynn Stradinger, Isabel, South Dakota purchased the next two top selling bulls, both are Mar. 2014 sons of Red Crowfoot Moonshine 2116Z.
Lot 11, CBR Moonshine 9302-449, is a calving ease prospect with epds of BW -3.3, WW 47 YW 67 Milk 17 that sold at $12,000
Lot 1, CBR Moonshine 9552-4297 is a power bull that had a 205 day weight of 793 pounds, yearling weight of 1228 pounds, and epds of BW 0.3 WW 71 YW 102 Milk 14 that sold at $11,500.
Brenner Angus Ranch, Carson, North Dakota purchased lot 5, CBR MR. Quad 010-4186 at $11,500. This March 2014 son of CBR Triple Duty 0566-7542 that has epds of BW 0.0 WW 63 YW 82 Milk 18.
Topping the open heifers at $4,100 to Severence Red Angus, Palermo, North Dakota, was lot 113. CBR Ms. Quad 911-4209 is a 3/13 daughter of CBR Triple Duty 0566-7542 with epds of BW -0.3 WW 63 YW 84 Milk 14.
This was an excellent sale for the Campbell's. Watch for their commercial bred heifer sale in November when they will sell several hundred head of fancy Red Angus heifers bred to calving ease Red Angus bulls. F
