The weather was on the border of being warm, as the thermometer flirted with 70 degrees. Johnson-Rose Angus Ranch, owned by Stuart Johnson and his family, along with Clint and Bonnie Rose, Pearl Johnson, and Bailey Johnson, brought another top set of bulls to Mobridge Livestock for their annual bull sale.
This firm places a lot of emphasis on maternal genetics, and this truly shows up in their cow herd. They believe in moderately framed cattle that are easy fleshing. They sold some older bulls on this year’s sale, and that is exactly the way they looked.
There were several sire groups, offered on this year’s sale. Some of the sires were BJJ GI Joe 34, Cole Creek Cedar Ridge IV, STJ Classic, Coleman Charlo, Sitz Dash, and Rainmaker. Many repeat buyers were back this year to compete and make this a successful sale for this family.
Top selling bull of the day was Lot 3, selling for $10,000 to Brian and Craig Worth from Gettysburg, South Dakota. This son of Sitz Dash was out of a two-year-old heifer by OCC Missing Link 830M. Born at 78 pounds, he weaned at 655 pounds and posted a yearling weight of 1,286 pounds. He gained 3.94 pounds a day, and he had a 38 cm. scrotal measurement.
At $9,500, the Lot 1 bull also sold to Brian and Craig Worth. He was a son of Sitz Dash and out of a daughter of Mytty In Focus who was a two-year-old heifer. With a 74 pound birth weight, he weaned at 719 pounds, and reached a yearling weight of 1,207 pounds.
Ben Bieber from Trail City, South Dakota, purchased Lots 53, 55, and 59, each at $9,500. These were all sons of SAV Resource 1441. Lot 53 had a 92 pound birth weight, a 788 pound weaning weight, and a 1393 pound yearling weight. Lot 55 had an 89 pound birth weight, weaning at 752 pounds, and yielding a yearling weight of 1,272 pounds. Lot 59 was born at 86 pounds, weaned at 722 pounds, and reached a yearling weight of 1,301 pounds.
Colin Milliken, Timber Lake, South Dakota, bought Lot 34 at $8,500. This son of Connealy Thunder was out of a daughter of B/R New Frontier 095. He hit the ground at 89 pounds, weaned at 856 pounds, and posted a yearling weight of 1,387 pounds.

Lot 27 sold for $8,500 to Brian Worth. This grandson of SAV Final Answer was out of a Connealy Thunder daughter, and a heifer bull prospect.
