161 18 month and 2-year-old bulls – $7,323
Roger Joseph and son Robert presented a large number of long-age Angus bulls for the Annual Joseph Angus Ranch bull sale held at Valentine Livestock on Jan. 26. This was a very respectable set of 2-year-old and 18 month old bulls selling in volume. The bulls were in good working condition, with a bit of extra flesh, but not fat and over done. They will go out and work in the breeding pastures and come back in sound.
The sale bulls were sired by some of the most sought after genetics in the Angus breed including Connealy consensus 7229, WK Roger, Baldridge Waylon W34, Tombstone 050, Upward, Onward and Windy 702. The buyers in the seats were liked what they saw and bid accordingly, making for an excellent sale.
Topping things off was lot 3, JAR Waylon A100, an August, 2013, son of Baldridge Waylon W34 of a Rito 1I2 daughter. A powerful herd sire prospect with lots of growth, fleshing ability and eye appeal. He posted epds of BW 3.4 WW 53 YW 107 Milk 25 with a $B value of $124.03. Green Mountain Angus Ranch, Rygate, Montana, was the wining bidder at $22,000.
Selling at $20,500 was lot 18, JAR Waylon A080, another August, 2013, son of Baldridge Waylon out of an Image Maker daughter. This bull has epds of BW 2.8 WW 62 YW 104 Milk 27 $B 125.91. Many times repeat Joseph Angus Ranch bull buyers, Corky and Janet Worth, Springview, Nebraska, were the buyers.
Lot 19, JAR Waylon A183, is another August, 2013 Baldridge Waylon son that sold to Jim Cozad, Wood Lake, Nebraska, for $15,000. This bull has epds of BW 3.5 WW 61 YW 107 Milk 22 $B 123.33.
Lot 95, JAR Waylon A124 is an August, 2013, son of Baldridge Waylon with epds of BW 3.1 WW 58 YW 106 Milk 26 that sold to Todd Rothleutner, Kilgore, Nebraska, for $14,500. Rothleutner also picked up lot 50, JAR Forefront A254, a September, 2013, son of Mytty Forefront 77P. This bull has epds of BW 1.8 WW 62 YW 101 Milk 27.
Selling at $12,500 was lot 123, JAR Forefront A226, a September, 2013, son of Mytty Forefront with epds of BW 2.1 WW 56 YW 95 Milk 21. Craig O’Keefe, Wood Lake, Nebraska, was the buyer.
What a great crowd and beautiful day for a bull sale. After the sale everyone was invited down to the Peppermill Steak House in Valentine for a great steak and hospitality. The Peppermill, owned by the Joseph family is one of the premier steakhouses in the region.
