Bar 69 Angus Ranch, owned by Craig and Deb Kukuchka and their family, hosted a good crowd for their annual production sale at Belle Fourche Livestock. Their ranch is located six miles east of Belle Fourche.

This herd is generations deep into maternal genetics that have advanced the quality and efficiency of this herd of Angus cattle. They believe that great cows produce great bulls. I felt this was an outstanding set of bulls and a great set of fancy heifers.

This was another very good sale for this family. Ninety percent of the bulls in the sale were AI sired, but still the strength of this program is their strong cow herd. This herd prides itself in easy fleshing, high volume females that can maintain themselves in any environment. These cows are selected to breed back early and raise heavy calves.

A real treat at the start of this sale was the "Star Spangled Banner," sung by Callie Kukuchka.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 5108, selling for $10,500 to the S & L Sheep Ranch from Alzada, Montana. This calving ease bull was sired by Connealy Confidence 0100 and out of a daughter of Sitz Upward 307R. Born at 79 pounds, he weaned at 782 pounds to ratio 117, and posted a yearling weight of 1174 pounds. His EPDs were CED 12, BW 0.0, WW 6, YW 116, $W 74.96, and $B 138.48. His scrotal measurement was 39.4 cm., along with a 15 square inch ribeye.

Wolenetz and Sons from Baker, Montana, chose Lot 5133 at $10,000. Here was a son of Connealy Capitalist 028 who was out of a daughter of Sitz Traveler 8180. The mother of this herd bull prospect was a Pathfinder with a ratio of 106 on six calves. His stats included EPDs of BW 2.6, WW 59, MILK 21, and YW 97. He weaned at 795 pounds to ratio 119, and grew to a yearling weight of 1286 pounds to ratio 119.

As Lot 5103 entered the ring, hands immediately vied for the auctioneer's attention, with the winning bidder, 6 Creek Farms from Ekalaka, Montana, paying $9000 to own this good black bull. He was yet another son of Connealy Confidence and out of a Sitz Upward daughter. His EPDs were CED 12, BW 0.3, WW 53, MILK 24, and YW 95. He entered the world at 82 pounds and weaned at 739 pounds to ratio 110. His scrotal measurement was 39.8 cm., and his IMF was 3.47 to ratio 129. He had a 14.8 square inch ribeye, and a $B score of 127.97.

George and Kris Smith from Milesville, South Dakota, selected Lot 5150, a calving ease bull, at $8,500. This son of SAV Final Answer 0035 was out of an Upward daughter. He had EPDs of CED 12, BW -1.6, WW 54, MILK 25, and YW 100. Born at 76 pounds, he weaned at 684 pounds. He had a 15.6 square inch ribeye.
