The Mowry family, Steve, Deb and sons, Sage and Shilo presented a top set of real world bulls for the 18th Annual Ma & Pa Angus bull sale held at Presho Livestock Auction, Presho, S.D.
The Ma & Pa bulls are "pasture tested" not feedlot tested. They are out of a very productive set of cows that are required to raise and wean a calf every year. If not that cow goes to town. The cows calve out in the pasture, not in the yard. They are expected to raise and nurture that calve and bring it in at weaning time. Raising cattle that fit or can adapt to their environment is what Ma & Pa Angus is all about. When looking through the sale catalog, it looks like that philosophy is working when you see all the pathfinder dams and grand dams in the pedigrees of the sale bulls.
These bulls were range ready, hard bodied, easy keepers that their new owners will appreciate more and more as the breeding season progresses. As Steve pointed out "you see what you get" when you purchase a Ma & Pa Angus bull. And the buyers liked what they saw, giving the Mowry family their best sale ever.
Topping the sale was lot 641, a Mar. 2014 son of Sinclair Excellent 9XE3 that weaned off at 794 pounds and has a weaning ratio of 115. This bull has epds of CED 3 BW 1.2 WW 58 YW 111 Milk 25 and sold to repeat buyer Rob Caulkins, Ft. Pierre, SD for $12,500.
