Luke and Elizabeth McPherson hosted a good crowd for their annual production sale at Philip Livestock Auction. The McPherson’s have built a great customer base with many being close neighbors. I always say that if you can sell to your neighbors, you can sell to anyone!
Luke walks through these bulls, working especially hard on the disposition of his cattle. These bulls have been worked with horses, four-wheelers, and pickups. This well grown set of bulls had excellent numbers, and some were from his embryo transplant program. The bulls had strong carcass traits and were long-bodied.
Top selling bull of the day was Lot 27, selling at $9,750 to Ed Thompson, Sturgis, South Dakota. This was an ET bull, sired by RB Tour of Duty 177 and out of the McPherson donor cow, Ox Bow Blackcap Lady 5142. The EPDs are BW 4.1, WW 57, YW 93, MILK 23, and $B 93.52. With an actual birth weight of 89 pounds, he posted weaning and yearling weights of 649 pounds and 1,279 pounds.
Faron Schweitzer, Timber Lake, South Dakota, bought Lot 1 at $9,500. This son of Connealy Confidence 0100 was out of a Papa Prime Time daughter. His EPDs were CED 11, BW 0.1, WW 53, YW 90 and MILK 33. Born at 77 pounds, he weaned at 738 pounds to ratio 110.
Lot 3 sold to Byron Denke, Quinn, South Dakota, for $9,500. Here was a son of Connealy Confidence 0100 who was out of a daughter of Mr JT Ribeye 946. His EPDs are CED 16, BW -2.0, WW 64, YW 104, MILK 37, MARB 0.44, RE 1.31, and $B 106.21. With a birth weight of 70 pounds, he weaned at 822 pounds to ratio 122, and posted a yearling weight of 1,283 pounds to ratio 114.
Peters Ranch, repeat buyers from Murdo, South Dakota, bought Lot 14 at $9,500. Sired by LT Westport 1076, his EPDs were BW 3.5, WW 59, YW 95, MILK 25, SCR 1.30, and RE 0.54. He had a scrotal measurement of 40 cm. His mother, a Bushwacker daughter with a nursing ratio of 4/108, is a Pathfinder cow.
Lot 19 also sold to Ed Thompson for $9,500. A son of LT Westport 1076, he had an 83 pound birth weight and a weaning weight of 788 pounds to ratio 117. His scrotal measurement was 42 cm.
A very good day for this young family, and the best sale ever for McPherson Angus!
