It was a chilly and foggy day heading to the Performance Plus Maine-Anjou Bull Sale at the Nagel Cattle Company Ranch Feb. 9, 2015. Once again with cattle being the hot commodity these days, weather was not a factor. People lined up to view and appraise the bulls offered that promote performance, production, and carcass traits. The Nagel's definitely raise good cattle and always strive to make the cattle better. This set of bulls was well made phenotypically backed up with some powerful genetics to enhance any operation. The cattle were docile with a lot of meat packed into a well-balanced package and were distributed throughout 10 states. Here is the very top end of the sale:
Starting the sale with a bang, Lot 2 NAGE Ante Up 36B sold for $12,000 to Todd Klockgetter of Charter Oak, Iowa. This NAGE Ante Up 70Z son is a 3/4 Maine bull with EPDs of BW 1.2, WW 39.6, YW 87.1, and Milk 22. He was born Feb. 6, 2014, weighing 88 pounds and had an ADJ 205 of 719 pounds.
Three bulls fetched $10,500, earning second-high-seller honors.
One was Lot 32 NAGE Ante Up 141B, another 70Z son heading to Nevada, Mo., with Jack Lathrop. His EPDs are BW 1.9, WW 36.1, YW 71.6, and Milk 22.3 while he was born Feb. 25, 2014, weighing 96 pounds and had an ADJ 205 of 705 pounds.
Immediately following in sale order, Lot 77 NAGE Ike 301A also sold for $10,500. This is a 3/4 Maine son out of GVC Ike Y52 heading to Bob Browning in Esterville, Iowa. This bull was a meat wagon with EPDs of BW 2.9, WW 51.6, YW 95.6, and Milk 23.5. He was born August 16, 2013, weighing 80 pounds and had an ADJ 205 of 705 pounds.
And the very next bull in the ring also brought $10,500. Lot 40 NAGE Effective 8B is out of Schiefelbein Effective 61. Born Jan. 20, 2014, weighing 80 pounds has an ADJ 205 of 845 pounds and was purchased by Neil Birkeland of Dupree, S.D. This 3/8 Maine bull has EPDs of BW -1.4, WW 47.4, YW 105.6, and Milk 26.
Selling for $9,750 was Lot 11, NAGE Banker 75B, to Kirk Shraumann of Aberdeen, S.D. This AFR Banker 1W son was born Feb 13, 2014 weighing 90 pounds and had an ADJ 205 of 709 pounds. He's a purebred Maine bull that has EPDs of BW 1.0, WW 46.2, YW 87.2, and Milk 21.4.
Lot 3, NAGE Ante Up 70B, sold to Rick James of Paris, Mo., for $9,500. This was another NAGE Ante Up 70Z son with EPDs of BW 4.2, WW 49.1, YW 96.6, and Milk 23. He was born Feb. 9, 2014, weighing 82 pounds and had an ADJ 205 754 pounds.
