What a fine day in Gordon, Nebraska for the Rancher's Choice 14th Annual Bull Sale. This year Don and Mary Vannatta teamed up with Matt Peters of the Spitoon Ranch to offer an outstanding set of bulls. Don Vannatta has been in the business a long time and knows what it takes to make good cattle better from conception to the dinner plate. Matt Peters ran these bulls out in a pasture, and they did awesome. Every bull in the sale showed fleshing ability backed by proven performance. Auctioneer Dace Harper started the sale at a brisk pace and it didn't let up through the day. Here is how the top end turned out:
The pace was well kept deep into the sale as Lot 20 topped out at $11,000. SV Earnan 4011 was purchased by Myron Peterson of Ashby, Nebraska and is a son of Conneally Earnan 076E. He was born Feb. 1, 2014, weighing 83 pounds and has an ADJ WW of 793 pounds. He also posted EPDs of BW 2.6, WW 77, YW 126, and milk 21; he was a stout made cow bull.
Out of the two's Lot 10 stood out selling for $10,500 to Roger Vincent of Rushville, Nebraska. This SR Higher Up 0073 son was born April 27, 2013, weighing 88 pounds and has an ADJ WW of 767 pounds He has EPDs of BW 2.6, WW 66, YW 110, and Milk 32. Spitoon Higher Up 332 is out of a Mytty In Focus daughter.
Also selling for $10,500 was way down the sale order, Lot 45 SV Ten X Bailey 4071. This BA Ten X 0304 son was purchased by Bernard and Bruce Kulas of Alliance, Nebraska, and had good EPDs of BW -1.1, WW 59, YW 99, and Milk 22. He was born Feb. 19, 2014, weighing 70 pounds and has an ADJ WW of 773 pounds
Lot 23, SV Thick 4081, sold for $9,000 to Myron Peterson of Ashby, Nebraska. A HA Thick 1670 son and grandson of SAV Bismark 5682 this bull had all sorts of good things about him. He has EPDs of BW 0.4, WW 67, YW 108, and Milk 25; he was born March 1, 2014, weighing 80 pounds with and ADJ WW 812 pounds This was an outstanding yearling in my book.
Lot 7, Spitoon Higher Up 321, a SR Higher Up 0073 son sold for $8,500 to the Lewin Ranch of Hay Springs, Nebraska. A rugged, fleshy calving ease two-year-old bull posted EPDs of BW -0.8, WW 57, YW 97, and Milk 31. He was born April 15, 2013, weighing 73 pounds and had an ADJ WW 708 pounds.
