Sletten Angus, owned by John, Tammy, and Jessica Sletten, hosted a big crowd for their annual production sale, and it was their best sale ever! It was a cold, foggy day, but an absolute full house was on hand to bid on this stout offering. I felt that, from top to bottom, this was the best set of bulls that the Sletten’s have ever offered.

Many repeat buyers were on hand to bid very aggressively on their top selections. The bulls were sold in catalog order, and the sale moved along quickly–staying strong to the very end!

John has done an excellent job in his selection of AI sires, but this year’s high selling bull was out of a herd bull, KG Alliance 1193, that John had purchased in partnership with Pine Creek Angus.

The top selling bull of the day was Lot 1, Mr JT Alliance 434, selling for $27,000 to Krebs Ranch, Gordon, Neb. He was a son of KG Alliance 1193 and out of a daughter of TC Total 410, who herself ratioed 108 on 7 calves. He had EPDs of CED 10, BW 0.9, WW 69, YW 117, MILK 25, and $B 109.8. He had top carcass scores with a rib eye of 19.0 sq. in. and an IMF of 5.66 percent to ratio 140. With an 85 pound birth weight, he weaned at 826 pounds, and then kept on growing to a yearling weight of 1,586 pounds We will be excited to see offspring from this bull.

Repeat buyer Dave Nash, Prairie City, S.D., bought Lot 9 at $17,000. He was another son of KG Alliance 1193, and out of a daughter of Hyline Right Time 338 who had ratioed 104 on 6 calves. His EPDs were BW 1.7, WW 62, YW 107, MILK 27, and $B 107. Born at 82 pounds, he weaned at 759 pounds to reach a yearling weight of 1,485 pounds He scanned a rib eye of 15.7 sq. in.

The Lot 3 bull sold for $11,500 with the new owner being Irving Jordan, Faith, S.D., He was a son of AAR Ten X 7008 SA, and out of a daughter of Connealy Thunder. This calving ease bull was born at 75 pounds and posted EPDs of BW 0.2, WW 63, YW 117, and MILK 24, along with posting a Beef Value of $131.68. After weaning at 773 pounds he attained a yearling weight of 1,490 pounds. He scanned a rib eye of 16.3 sq. in.

Longtime repeat buyers, The Kari Ranch, Bison, S.D., selected Lot 13 at $9,500. He was a son of RB Active Duty 010, and out of a daughter of GAR Ultimate. His EPDs were BW 2.5, WW 70, YW 123, MILK 30, and $B 95.72. With a birth weight of 88 pounds, he weaned at 806 pounds and posted a yearling weight of 1,492 pounds

Jace Birkeland, Dupree, S.D., found a good bull in Lot 31. This was a commercial bull that was just plain stout made through and through. Born at 86 pounds, he weaned at 784 pounds He was sired by KG Alliance, scanning an incredible 19.8 sq. in. rib eye, and sold to Jace for $9,250.

Just a great day for the Sletten family–and there were large delicious chocolate bars for all the buyers. (The men could tell their wives they were just out shopping for Valentine’s Day…please the cows, and please the wife.)
