John and Tammy Sletten, along with their daughter, Jessica, hosted their annual sale to a huge crowd at Faith Livestock. This family has been well respected in the Faith community since the start of their Angus breeding program. This was their 28th sale, and I’m sure that many of the buyers have been with him from the start.

This was a well-grown set of bulls, but certainly not overfed. They were very sound and athletic, with good dispositions.

John’s breeding goals have been simple—striving to breed moderately framed, functional cattle that excel in performance and carcass traits, without sacrificing the long standing merits of the Angus cow.

The sale stayed steady as the sale progressed through the offering of each of the lots. There was plenty of bidding from this eager crowd.

The top selling bull of the day was Lot 1, selling for $12,000 to long time repeat buyer, John Kari, Bison, South Dakota. This son of KG Alliance 1193 had EPDs of BW 1.1, WW 58, YW 120, MILK 24, and $B 150.26. Born at 84 pounds, he weaned at 795 pounds, and reached 1427 pounds as a yearling. He had a 16.8 square inch rib eye and a 42.79 cm. scrotal measurement.

Brooke Hershey from Rapid City, South Dakota, waited for Lot 30, a muscular bull that he purchased at $11,500. This bull was a son of KCF Bennett Absolute, and out of a daughter of TC Total 410. He was the highest marbling and the highest gaining bull in the sale. His EPDs were BW 0.72, WW 60, YW 110, MILK 19, and $B 135.25. With his 85 pound birth weight, he had weaned at 762 pounds. He had a 40.4 cm. scrotal measurement, a 14.5 square inch rib eye, and an IMF score of 6.3%.

Lot 2 also sold to John Kari. Here was another son of KG Alliance 1193, and he was out of a Mytty In Focus daughter. He was born at 78 pounds and weaned at 793 pounds. His EPDs were BW 0.2, WW 69, YW 120, MILK 27, and $B 151.14. His scrotal measurement was 42.2 cm, and his selling price was $10,500.

Dan Jordan, Faith, South Dakota, was the winning bidder on Lot 4 with his final bid of $9500. He was a son of Sitz Sensation 693A, and out of a daughter of Consensus 7229. He hit the ground at 78 pounds, and then grew to a weaning weight of 777 pounds. His EPDs were CED 17, BW -2.5, WW 61, YW 106, MILK 29, and $B 163.31.

Floyd Cammack from Union Center, South Dakota, was back this year to buy Lot 12 at $10,000. This son of KCF Bennett Absolute was out of a daughter of RB Active Duty 010. Born at 83 pounds, he weaned at 726 pounds.

The top selling registered open yearling sold to Mathew Gray from Faith, South Dakota, for $2000. Krebs Ranch from Gordon, Nebraska, bought the registered Sletten Angus cow at $5,000.
