Sodak Angus Ranch, owned by Vaughn and Lois Meyer and family, hosted a huge crowd on a very warm January day for their annual bull sale held at the ranch near Reva, South Dakota, a small town north of Belle Fourche.

This was Sodak’s 58th annual bull sale, so they have stood the test of time. I felt these were outstanding bulls, being well-grown and thick, full of muscle, and a good fit for many cattle outfits. Vaughn’s breeding program is based on actual production measurements, rather than anticipated progeny differences.

Sodak Angus offers a good guarantee, and they keep the bulls until spring delivery.

It was a pleasure to hear many of the people visit about how well they have been treated by this program.

Red Angus:

Top selling bull of the day was a Red Angus bull, Lot 62, selling for $25,000. He sold to Lazy J Bar Ranch at Mina, South Dakota, and will be a great addition to their good herd. Sodak Final Answer Y504 is a son of Sodak Final Answer Y544 and out of a daughter of Red Crowfeet Ole’s Oscar. Born at 75 pounds he weaned at 720 pounds Vaughn felt like this was possibly one of the best bulls he had ever raised.

Linsey Cattle Co., Lanno, Tex., chose Lot 65 at $13,500. Here was another son of Sodak Final Answer Y544. He hit the ground at 70 pounds and grew to a weaning weight of almost 700 pounds His EPDs were BW -1.1, WW 53, YW 82, and MILK 24.

Another top seller was Lot 77. When the gavel fell at $10,000, another good Red Angus bull had found a good home—this time at Rodeske Cattle Co., Cartwright, North Dakota This bull weighed only 62 pounds at birth, but he grew to a weaning weight of 727 pounds

Lot 63 sold for $9,000 to Rhett Peterson. This son of Sodak Final Answer was born at 75 pounds and weaned at 684 pounds

Lot 2 sold to Medicine Rock Angus Ranch, Ekalaka, Mont., for $10,500. Sired by Tombstone 050, going back to Sitz Upward, he was out of a Bismarck daughter. With an 80 pound birth weight, he weaned at 831 pounds and grew to a yearling weight of 1,239 pounds His EPDs were BW 2.6, WW 79, YW 124, and MILK 31.

Repeat buyer Brian Morris, Meadow, South Dakota, topped his purchases with Lot 1 and Lot 14, each at $9,500. Lot 1 was sired by AAR Ten X 7008. Born at 70 pounds he weaned at 769 pounds The Lot 14 bull was sired by Sodak Program X386 and out of a Lemar Windy 117P daughter. He had a 78 pounds birth weight and a weaning weight of 691 pounds

Shane Whiting chose Lot 21 at $8750. This son of AAR Ten X 7008 had a 64 pound birth weight and a weaning weight of 720 pounds His EPDs were BW 0.5, WW 61, YW 110, and MILK 27.

Just a great sale for the Meyer family!
