10th Annual Dick Stirling Memorial Team Penning and Ranch Rodeo to be held Oct. 6-7, 2007

Young and old, saddle up and get ready to ride at the 10th Annual Dick Stirling Memorial Team Penning and Ranch Rodeo to be held October 6 & 7th, 2007 at the Highmore Round-Up Arena in Highmore, SD.

This exciting event is held in memory of Dick Stirling, a life-long South Dakota rancher who lost his battle to lung cancer in October 1997. Because of his love for ranching and team penning, his wife and eight children continue this ranching tradition in an effort to raise money for individuals and families fighting cancer in local communities. Over the last nine years, the Team Penning has raised nearly $20,000 and given funds to over 20 families from South Dakota, North Dakota, California and Wyoming. “The money is given without restriction to those families struggling with cancer. We have encouraged them to use the money in whatever way they see fit, be it gas money to travel for treatments, Christmas money or even a weekend away.” states the Stirling family.

“We are gearing up for a wonderful celebration of fun and family time for the 10th Annual Memorial Team Penning and Ranch Rodeo. We are excited to have been fortunate enough to help so many people in so many places with the funds that we have raised for the past nine years. We are hoping to reach even more people with the funds raised from this year’s event,” say the eight children of Dick Stirling.

The Team Penning and Team Sorting Event will start the weekend long celebration on Saturday, October 6 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Central Time. Registration will start at 9:00 a.m.; Penning begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Calcutta auction of the top 15 teams. The top 15 teams will vie for prizes and money to be awarded to the four fastest teams. The cost for team registration for the Team Penning and Team Sorting is $75.

To add to the excitement of the weekend, The Memorial will include a Ranch Rodeo, on Sunday, October 7. The Ranch Rodeo competition consists of a 4-person team. The team must include one female and one youth 16 years or younger and two other members. Event registration begins at 9:00 a.m. CDT with Calcutta of all registered teams starting at 10:30 a.m. The cost for team registration for the Ranch Rodeo is $100. A new addition to the ranch rodeo event will be the Top Horse Award with a custom breast collar as the prize.

One of the many highlights of the weekend will include the kid’s events. Little ones will have a chance to feed the grain, gather eggs, wild cow milking, a calf scramble and a boot scramble.

Also on Sunday, the Stirling family invites everyone to join them at Cowboy Church Services at 10:00 a.m. in the Grand Stands of the Highmore Round-Up Arena.

The Stirling family invites everyone to come and enjoy two days of fun, excitement, and laughter and help raise funds for families fighting the cancer battle.
