2010 Central South Dakota Ranchers & Breeders Quarter Horse Sale
On Aug. 15, 2010, the Central South Dakota Ranchers & Breeders Quarter Horse Sale offered for sale 87 head of the finest horses and bloodlines South Dakota has to offer. A few changes occurred with the 2010 sale, the first being a change of location from Denny and Doris Lauing’s ranch near Blunt, SD, to the James Kjerstad Events Center on the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City, SD. Jerry Simon and Lynda Neumiller, Moreau River Quarter Horses, co-hosted the event with Lauing Mill Iron L Ranch.
The sale was well represented with buyers from ten states in attendance. DL Frenchman Ez Cash, a 2010-Palomino filly by Colonel Frenchman (Frenchmans Guy X Colonels Miss Targo) X Diamonds Tear Drop (Red’s Docs Diamond X Little Red Dash), brought by Denny and Doris Lauing, was high selling weanling capturing $900 from a buyer from the Black Hills of South Dakota. Consignors Harlan and Lori Walker of Wall, SD, sold a Buckskin stud colt for $825 out of GH Streaking Bull X Limeliter Socks. The top five averages of the weanlings was just under $800 per head.
Harlan and Lori Walker’s high-selling yearling, What A Strawberry (out of their sire Whatafly Special X Cash and Dash) brought $1,525. Denny and Doris Lauing’s Buckskin yearling, DL Shesa Poco Chex (Hesa Busy Chex X Trip Dash Flash), was the second high-selling yearling fetching $1,000.
The high-selling horse of the sale was brought by Levi and Ashley Lauing of Oral, SD, a 2001-Grade Gelding, bringing $6,000 and finding a new home in Nebraska. Second high-selling horse was claimed by Pal Jessies Oakie (Poco Okie Doke X Ginsings 012), a 2004-Palomino gelding consigned by Clayton Etzkorn from Pierre, SD). The 2005-Sorrel gelding, Comos Playboy (Comos Cottoneye X Dakota Playboy Girl) bred and raised by Denny and Doris Lauing, sold for $4,000, and will continue his career in the roping world under the direction of new owner Rocky Tibbs who holds the most South Dakota Rodeo Association championships won in heeling.
