2010 Rocky Mountain Breeders Association horse sale in Deer Lodge, Montana

The 10th Annual Rocky Mountain Breeders Association Production, Performance, and Ranch Horse Sale was held Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the Blue Ribbon Pavilion in Deer Lodge, MT.

A total of 71 horses passed through the sale ring. Sale offerings included a range of young horses from proven breeding programs, breeding stock, and saddle horses.

The high selling horse was Docsrooster, a 3-year-old sorrel Quarter Horse gelding with roaning throughout. He was sired by the Ostler’s herd sire, Leos Golden Buckshot and out of a daughter of Warbonnet Twist. This horse had been used or exposed to most aspects of ranch work. Consigned by Dave and Susan Ostler of Ostler Performance Horses in Drummond, MT, the gelding sold to buyer Caleb Campbell of Bozeman, MT, for a final bid of $4,000.



The top selling yearling honors went to Zips Little Shadow, a flashy gray stallion sired by Zip Little Wolf, one of the remaining breeding sons of Zippo Pat Bars. Crossed on a daughter of Johns Watch Tyree by Watch Tyree, this stout young colt was bred by Bill and Wanda Levengood of ELF Ranch in Whitehall, MT. He left the ring on a bid of $1,050 to buyer Patti Schwarz, of Deer Lodge, MT.

From the breeding program of Benjamin Quarter Horses from Havre, MT, the high selling weanling was a dun stallion sired by the Benjamin’s herd sire, Poco Two Fox. Leaving the ring with a bid of $525, JMB Major Jack Deuce sold to buyer Sonya Spoon of Missoula, MT.
