The South Dakota Junior Wool Classic was held at the South Dakota State Fair on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010. This annual show was founded by the Rambouillet, Targhee and Corriedale breed associations as a way to showcase the wool sheep breeds of South Dakota and the youth involved with them.

The show is open to youth 5-18-years-old. Currently there are classes for yearling-, fall- and spring-born ewes. The show ends with a showmanship contest for beginner-, junior- and senior-aged youth. This year’s show was judged by Justin Fruechte of Estelline, SD.

Winning Supreme Champion Ewe, and Champion Corriedale Ewe was Thomas Friesz. Reserve Supreme Champion was Adam Anderson, who also won Grand Champion Rambouillet Ewe.

In the Showmanship competition, Charles Levinson won the Beginning; Dakota Flint the Junior; and Jamie Flint the Senior contests.
