2011 Northeast Wyoming Sheep Symposium is Oct. 20 in Gillette

A lamb and wool economic outlook will help keep any wool from being pulled over producers’ eyes in the marketplace, and forage winter supplementation and breeding soundness exam information are also part of the Northeast Wyoming Sheep Symposium in Gillette.

There are six presentations during the symposium 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Boss Lodge Restaurant, 910 N. Gurley Ave. Participants can also ask questions of local and national sheep experts during a dinner panel discussion.

“It will be anything but a long-winded lecture format,” said Whit Stewart, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service educator in Campbell County. “This program will provide targeted education from an excellent group of regional and national sheep industry experts speaking on a wide variety of topics.”

Topics are:

• Lamb and Wool Outlook

• Breeding Soundness Exams/New Scrapie Rules

• Forage Kochia: A Perfect Fit for Sheep

• Practical Tips for Enhanced Ewe Reproduction

• Range Ewe Winter Supplementation Strategies

• Evaluation of Columbia, USMARC-Composite, Suffolk, and Texel Rams as Terminal Sires in an Extensive Rangeland Production System

Dinner is included. There are no registration fees; however, those planning to attend are asked to register to provide a head count for dinner. Please call 307-682-7281 or e-mail Stewart at wstewar2@uwyo.edu.
