2011 PRCA Year End Award nominees announced

The nominees for the inaugural PRCA Contract Personnel Lifetime Achievement Award range from behind the scenes – the secretary’s office and the pens – to the very center of the arena, where the specialty acts and rodeo clowns perform.

All five of the nominees devoted their lives to the cowboy sport, often in multiple roles, working long hours in all sorts of weather conditions and putting in hundreds of thousands of miles on the nation’s highway system.

• The late Donita Barnes of Peterson, IA, was a PRCA secretary and timer for more than 50 years. She also worked with her husband, ProRodeo Hall of Fame stock contractor Bob Barnes, to make their firm one of the most respected in the sport.

• Vince Bruce of Sarasota, FL, has been an opening act at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo four times. A PRCA member since 1990, he is known as The Wizard of Whips and Ropes and has set two Guinness world records.

• Ted Groene of Pahrump, NV, a former bull rider, has worked the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo since 1995, the last nine as livestock superintendent, in addition to countless other PRCA rodeos.

• Duane Reichert of New Underwood, SD, is a triple threat. He is a barrelman who has worked the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo, a specialty act performer who has trained horses to walk on their hind legs and a member of the PRCA Executive Council.

• Irene Singer of Calhan, CO, has worked the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo as both the secretary and a timer in a career that has spanned five decades.

The winner will be announced during the PRCA Awards Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, along with all the traditional year-end awards.
