2011 South Dakota Timed Event Championship honors

HURON, SD – Drew Cowan of Highmore, SD, was named the 2011 South Dakota Timed Event Champion during the South Dakota State Fair. With 62 points received, he slid past his competitors to earn top honors. Cowan competed in calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping at the Championship.

He was awarded a 2011 FeatherLite Stock Combo trailer sponsored by Iverson FeatherLite of Mitchell; a scholarship; and a trophy rope can along with many other prizes.

Kaitlyn Latham of Flandreau, SD, was awarded Reserve Timed Event Champion. She competed in barrel racing, breakaway roping and team roping.



Latham received a scholarship and a trophy rope can as well as other prizes. She was also awarded the Barrel Racing Champion saddle.

Others who claimed titles during the championship include Kristi Steffes of Vale, SD, in breakaway roping; Hallie Fulton of Miller, SD, in goat tying; Evan Thyberg of Hartford, SD, in steer wrestling; Seth Andersen of Hurley, SD, in calf roping; Lane Severson of Raymond, SD, in heading; and CY Christensen of Kennebec, SD, in heeling.



The 2011 South Dakota Timed Event Championship was sponsored in part by Iverson FeatherLite, Panhandle Slim, and Producer’s Hybrids. The inaugural South Dakota Timed Event Championship awarded one trailer and seven saddles to the Midwest’s most deserving youth rodeo talent. Made possible by Eastern Dakota Rodeos, Jason Edleman and Steven Birkholtz, the stands were filled as State Fair attendees watched youth contestants compete in six rodeo timed events.

With such a successful 2011 championship in the books, there are hopes for 2012 to be bigger and better. “We’ve heard so many positive comments. We are excited to get the 2012 championship rolling. It was a great experience and an even better way to showcase the great South Dakota youth rodeo talent,” stated Edleman.
