2012 Ag Women’s Day is June 12 in Brookings

Farm Service Agency (FSA) Brookings County Farm Loan Officers Gail Gullickson and Mary Held encourage women involved in agriculture to attend the Ag Women’s Day on June 12 at the First Lutheran Church Activity Center in Brookings, SD.

“This year’s event offers something of interest for all participants. We encourage all women regardless of their age or role on the farm to invest in themselves and attend this day-long inspirational and educational event,” said Gullickson.

The keynote speaker, Ron Hanson, is a professor at University of Nebraska and will be using real life humor to emphasize the importance for family members, especially farm couples, to initiate a more determined effort to spend more personal time together and to better communicate and share their feelings with each other.

Attendees will select break-out sessions to learn about building strong family relationships; the basics to be an advocate for ag; basic strategies to avoid major financial disasters; steps to tame the common emotional struggles surrounding issues of personal finance; a women’s guide to money matters; and how to create a living wreath.

The conference also will provide attendees with information about FSA programs available for beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. Sanford Health is offering free health screenings and attendees will enjoy a Health & Wellness Fair. Dr. Ellen Hopper will share women’s health maintenance issues and preventive care.

The event will end with Amy Dee-Kristensen as she inspires women to Live Everyday Bliss.

“This program is designed for today’s woman who has to manage and balance both personal and professional aspects of their daily lives,” said Gullickson.

The day’s events begin at 9 am with registration starting at 8 am. Registration is requested on or before June 1 and costs $10. Interested individuals should contact the Brookings County FSA Office at 605-692-8003.
