2012 Black Hills Stock Show cattle supreme champions and breed champions named

The second week of the Black Hills Stock Show (Jan. 30 – Feb. 4) showcased 350 cattle from 10 different breed associations.

The supreme champion female was the Chi-influenced champion, consigned by: Cagney Effling, Highmore, SD, and purchased for $8,000, by Tom Federspeil, Cascade IA.

The supreme champion bull was the Simmential bull, Consigned by Wager Cattle Company, Gettysburg, SD and purchased by Richard Wallace, Wheeler, TX, for $10,500.

Judge Clint Rusk, Brookings, SD, used his critical eye Jan. 30 – Feb. 2, in search of champions for the BHSS Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Red Angus, and Gelbvieh shows.

Rusk sorted through 16 heifers and 47 bulls in order to find Champion Angus bull, Chestnut Redo. Consigned by, Chestnut Angus, Pipestone, MN. Fox Angus Farms, Watertown, SD purchased the bull for $16,000.

Champion Angus heifer, Lau Blackbird JJ 1701, consigned by Lau Angus, Armour, SD. He was purchased by Bunker Cattle, Arlington, SD, for $8,000.

Champion Charolais bull, JAB Bullet in the Gun, was in tough competition with 30 other bulls vying for the title. Consigned by J and A Charolais, Sparta, WI. Joel Deering, Wasta, SD, purchased the bull for $7,000.

With three Charolais females to choose from, champion heifer was CC Micah. Consigned by Kim Coudron, Monticello, MN, she was purchased for $5,000 by Phillip Beard, Windfield, IA

Even though Rusk grew up with Hereford cattle the 26 bulls he had to select from were flashy. Champion Hereford bull, Ernst 286M Domino, went to Ernst Herefords, Windsor, CO. He sold to Don Hutchinson, Wounded Knee, SD, for $8,000.

Muller Cattle, Agar SD, brought the champion heifer SM Clamity Jane 126ET, single entry. She was purchased for $5,250, by Wagner Hereford Farm and Chesney Effling.

Champion Red Angus bull, WEBR JESSE JAMES, not only stood out amongst the 34 other bulls, but also was named the people’s choice award BHSS bull. Consigned by Weber Land and Cattle, Lake Benton, MN. He was purchased by Jensen Ranch, Whitewood, SD, for $10,000.

Eleven heifers competed against NAMKEN NORTHSTAR, in hopes of being named the champion Red Angus female. She was consigned by Namken Red Angus, Lake Norden, SD, and sold for $ 6,000 to Sidney Brennan, Carson, ND.

Champion Gelbvieh bull was met in the ring by five others strutting to the title. BCV XCALIBER consigned by BCV Gelbvieh, Nisland, SD, came home with the honors. Sold for $5,750 to Morell Livestock, Union Center, SD

Purchased by Leonhardt Cattle, for $9,500 was the champion Gelbvieh heifer, EGL NARNIA, who stood out against seven other females. She was consigned by Eagle Pass Ranch, Highmore, SD.

Brian Barragree, Absarokee, MT used his broad knowledge and keen vision to finish the week (Feb. 2-4), with Chi-influenced, Limousin, Maine-Anjou, Shorthorn, and Simmentals.

Champion Chi-influenced bull was sorted through 15 animals, WEBC Mr. New Look went home with the title. He was consigned by Weber Show Cattle, Highmore, SD. He sold to Dennis Feickert for $4,100.

Barragree lead the 21 Limousin bulls with, L7 XHAUST to be named the champion. He was consigned by Peterson L7 Bar Limousin, Pukwana, SD. Purchased for $6,000 by Kyle Stern, Garden City, SD

Champion Limousin heifer was JSWT YUM YUM, consigned by Sweeter Limousin, Worthing, SD. She was sold to Leon Vogel, Gothenburg, NE for $2,400.

Champion Maine-Anjou bull TDX MR STATESMAN earned the slap in front of 23 contenders. Consigned by Kearns Cattle Company, Rushville, NE, he was purchased for $7,000 by Neil Birkeland, Dupree, SD.

Maine-Anjou champion heifer RASJ MISS LEGANCY was consigned by Jaime Rasmussen and Dustin Volek. She was sold to Alan Beare, Ree Heights, SD.

Champion Shorthorn bull, MILLVALE 234 EAGLE, was easy for Barragree to select out of the 12 competitors. Consigned by Millvale Shorthorns, Fordville, ND, he was sold to Roberta Millvale, Fordville, ND, for $1,500.

Champion Shorthorn heifer, MCC ULTRA WHITE, was consigned by Mills and Campbell, Gordon, NE. She was purchased by Dylan Schaunaman, Ashley, ND for $3,800.

Simmental champion heifer was sorted through six other females and was awarded to KCC Miss Empress 378Y. Consigned by: Kearns Cattle Company, Rushville, NE, NLC Simmental, Wessington, SD.
