2012 Nebraska Sandhills Cattle Association Convention set for May 24 in Thedford
The Sandhills Cattle Association will hold its 73rd Annual Convention on Thursday, May 24 at the Thomas County Fairgrounds near Thedford, NE. Registration begins at 9 a.m. (CDT) and the convention is open to all interested cattle producers.
Leading off the program at 10 a.m. is Bethany Johnston and Jay Jenkins, UNL Extension Educators, that will demonstrate the “Chuck Roll Beef Value Cuts.” Participants will watch as Johnston and Jenkins take a chuck roll and fabricate it into the various cuts.
At 11 a.m. Ty E. Lawrence, an Associate Professor of Animal Science at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX, will present “Beef Production Beyond the Ranch and Feedlot.”
Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Association’s annual business meeting. Members will elect officers and for the 2012-13 year and five directors to serve on the Board of Directors. The presentation of scholarships will follow.
Leading off the afternoon presentations at 2 p.m. will be Roy Schnell, DVM. He will demonstrate acupuncture and chiropractic techniques that can be used on horses and cattle.
Mike Kesselring wraps up the day’s presentations on a light note asking “Can You Work with Your Wife and Still Sleep with Her?” He is a co-owner of the family business, High Plains Homestead, home of the Drifter Cookshack and Bunkhouse, northwest of Crawford, NE.
Following the speakers, convention activities will move into the tradeshow pavilion where attendees can visit with over 40 exhibitors featuring industry products and services. The Annual Benefit Auction to raise funds for SCA Scholarships and educational and promotional programs will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the evening food booths.
Registration fees for convention are $40 for SCA members and $55 for non-members.
The day before convention, Wednesday, May 23, the 15th Annual Sandhills Cattle Association Golf Classic will be held at the Thedford Golf Course, Thedford, NE. The fun, four-person scramble will tee off at 11 a.m. (CDT) with a shotgun start. The tournament is open to everyone regardless of golf experience. The entry fee of $60 includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and prizes. The Sandhills Cattle Association’s Golf Classic is a fundraising event for the Association. Monies raised will be used for Sandhills Cattle Association’s promotional and educational programs. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica will serve a complimentary smoked beef brisket after the golf tournament.
