2012 Wedge Tent Ranch Angus Bull Sale
The Wedge Tent Ranch, owned by Bart and Shannon Carmichael, hosted a big crowd at Lemmon Livestock for their annual bull sale. Many repeat buyers were on hand, as well as a host of new customers looking to invest in this program.
The Wedge Tent breeding program is designed to turn grass into beef. The cattle are moderately framed and bred to be full of muscle. There are many of the Ohlde bloodlines packed into these cattle. These are cows and bulls that have “bred-in” calving ease, and are naturally easy fleshing. The goal is that these cattle will be cheaper to raise.
This was a very fast-paced, active sale with good bidding all the way through. There were several half brothers in the sale.
The top-selling bull of the day was Lot 15, selling to Ryan Vig, Opal, SD, for $7,500. He was a son of OCC Missing Link 830M and out of an older Jim Nachtigal cow. This heifer bull had a 65-pound birth weight and weaned at 598 pounds. He had EPDs of BW 0.4, WW 39, YW 69 and Milk 19.
