28th Annual Oakwater Ranch/Rocking Arrow Charolais

Oakwater Ranch/Rocking Arrow Charolais held their bull sale at Valentine Livestock Auction, Valentine, NE, on April 12, 2011.

The bulls in the sale were in great working condition, showing ample amount of natural thickness and eye appeal. They were moderate-framed bulls, fed for longevity and soundness. Their breeding program is focused on balancing all traits while lowering birth weights. Three of their herd sires rank in the top 25 percent of the Charolais breed for birth weight EPD.

This sale offering was a very nice cross-section of calving ease and performance bulls. There was very active bidding on all lots, giving Oakwater/Rocking Arrow one of their best ever sales. The sale was very steady from start to finish with no extreme tops, and bulls sold in prices to fit all budgets.

The high-selling bull on the day was Lot 43, OW Paul X120 P, a 2/17/10 son of WCR Sir Paul 4377. This powerful herd bull prospect has EPDs of BW 0.8, WW 29, YW 47 and Milk 11 with a 14.22 adjusted ribeye and weaning ratio of 105, yearling ratio 107. Edward Ranch, Harrison, AR, was the buyer at $7,250.

Steve Vetch, Ord, NE, selected the next two top-selling bulls. Both are calving ease sons of OW Maximizer S013. Lot 40 was born 3/26/10, has EPDs of BW -0.3, WW 33, YW 60 and Milk 9, with a WR of 117, YR of 117 and sold for $7,000. Selling at $6,600 was Lot 39, with EPDs of BW -1.0, WW 27, YW 45 and Milk 6.
