4-H State Air Rifle match winners named

Ramsey County teams took top honors in the 2015 4-H state air rifle match held in Devils Lake on March 28.
The Ramsey team of Maria Rosa-Nieves, Brandon Alexander, Christopher Morstad and Erin Morstad was first in the senior division and qualified for the 2016 4-H National Invitational in Grand Island, Neb. Rosa-Nieves was the top scorer with 524 and Alexander placed second with 511. Christopher Morstad took third place with a score of 477.
The competition was limited to sporter class air rifles. The senior division is for youth 14 to 18 years old, the junior division is for youth 11 to 13 years old and beginners are 8 to 10 years old.
Beginners participated in a 40-shot bench-rest competition for a possible score of 400. The junior and senior teams competed in a three-position, (prone, kneeling and standing) event, performing 20 shots in each position for a potential score of 600. The junior division champions were the Ramsey team of Jacob Vaagen, Peter Wang, Haven Stelzel and Michael Abrahamson. Top three shooters were Vaagen, first place, with 468; Stelzel, second place, with 427; and Wang, third, with 381.
The Ramsey team of Jenna Gerhardt, Gage Meyer, Rebecca Morstad and Dylan Hintz claimed the top honors in the beginner division. The top scorers were Gerhardt, first, with 374; Meyer, second, with 352; and Morstad, third, with 350.
The competition also had a master's division and a pilot match with air pistols. The master's division is for youth who previously qualified for the 4-H National Invitational in air rifle and no longer are eligible to compete for the state championship in the senior division.

The master's division champion was Joesph Frisinger of Cass County, with a score of 404. Ryan Biewer of Richland County was second, with a score of 398. Skylar Schaefer of Cass County was third, with a score of 388.
In the pilot match, youth take 40 shots in a standing position at 10 meters for a possible score of 400 points. Max Schuh of Ramsey County had the high score of 333 in the senior division of the pilot match. Schaefer was second, with a score of 223, and Frisinger was third, with 193.
Ramsey County youth also were the top scorers in the junior division. Wang was first, with a score of 262; Addisyn Meyer was second, with 259; and Braydon Gerhardt was third, with 188.
