5L Red Angus 2011 ‘Right for the Times’ Annual Fall Bull Sale

The Larry and Lisa Mehlhoff family held a very successful fall bull sale at the ranch near Sheridan, WY. This “Right for the Times” bull sale featured two-year-old bulls that had been specifically selected for this sale. The bulls excelled in thickness, fleshing ability and eye appeal. They were bred to be moderate framed, muscular, easy calving with excellent carcass traits and low maintenance requirements. The sale was held at the new sale facility a couple miles from the home place at the bull development lots. By moving the sale to where the bulls were fed, buyers got to see how the bulls had been developed, in large side hill pens, allowing for plenty of exercise to ensure soundness and longevity.

Topping the Red Angus bulls was Lot 111, 5L Power View 737-297X, a March 25, 2010 son of 5L Perspective 3244-8167. This powerhouse bull posted EPDs of BW -2.3, WW 30, YW 53 and Milk 31, and sold to John Marshall, Katy, TX, for $19,000.

Lot 5, 5LTradin Fire 464-138X sold to Arcadia Land & Livestock, Stringtown, OK, for $17,500. This February 23, 2010 son of 5L Tradition 203-6145 posted EPDs of BW -0.6, WW 25, YW 51 and Milk 16.



Selling at $10,000 was Lot 110, 5L Edge On 3148-299X, a March 2010 son of 5L Red Edge 743-30V with EPDs of BW -0.2, WW 30, YW 61 and Milk 18. Loosli Red Angus, Ashton, ID, was the buyer.

Two sold for $6,750 each:



Lot 6, 5L Guarantee 1837-527X, is a May 1, 2010 son of 5L Turnpike 735-7507 with EPDs of BW 2.7, WW 52, YW 87 and Milk 16. Leland Red Angus, Sidney, MT, was the buyer.

Lot 7, 5L Copper Pike T489-465X, an April 22, 2010 son of 5L Turnpike 735-7507 went to Buster Sturber, Opheim, MT. This bull has EPDs of BW 0.5, WW 32, YW 66 and Milk 16.

Topping the black-red carrier bulls was Lot 51, 5L Narrative 865-110X, a February 19, 2010 son of 5L Tradesman 1715-6237. This bull has EPDs of BW -0.3, WW 25, YW 58 and Milk 22. John Marshall, Katy, TX, was the buyer at $9,500.

Michigan State University selected Lot 55, 5L Blacklight 3547-441X, an April 14, 2010 son of 5L Quarterback 1205-5337 for $6,500. This bull has EPDs of BW 0.1, WW 42, YW 67 and Milk 19.

Damon Stauffer, Arlington, KS, purchased the next two top-selling bulls. Lot 58, 5L Tradition C866-193X is a March 10, 2010 son of 5L Tradition 203-6145 with EPDs of BW 1.4, WW 16, YW 44 and Milk 20, and sold for $5,750. Lot 62, 5L Radiator 2157-368X, is an April 1, 2010 son of 5L Blazin Ram 5166-7504 with EPDs of BW -2.7, WW 31, YW 51 and Milk 11, and sold at $5,500.
