Ag United Luncheon to recognize farm families
Agriculture United for South Dakota will host its annual luncheon to recognize the state’s farm and ranch families on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn South, 5300 South Grand Circle (1-229 and Louise), Sioux Falls.
Rod Snyder, president of Field to Market® The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, will deliver the keynote address highlighting progress that the nation’s farmers and ranchers have made in increasing food production while preserving natural resources. He will share how The Alliance — a diverse group that includes agribusinesses, farmer organizations, restaurant owners, universities, and conservation groups — is working together to meeting the food needs of a growing world population.
“It is no secret that we face a daunting challenge to feed 9 billion people by 2050 in a sustainable way,” said Steve Dick, executive director of Ag United. “Rod Snyder will share some of the measurement tools and projects that are currently in place to ensure that each step of the food production chain is working together efficiently and responsibly to meet that growing demand.”
Ag United will mark its 10th Anniversary at the event, celebrating a decade of supporting South Dakota farm and ranch families and rural communities. Ag United has worked with farm families to host tens of thousands of visitors to their farms, reach out to thousands of students and share information through social media. Programs like Moms’ Day Out on the Farm, Restaurant Crawls and Adopt-A-Farmer videos have helped introduce the stories of modern agriculture to South Dakota consumers. And, Ag United has helped the state’s livestock producers start or expand their operations during the planning and permitting processes.
The luncheon will also include the announcement of the group’s first AgUnited AgVocate of the Year. The award will recognize an individual or family in South Dakota who has gone above and beyond in telling their story to the public.
Complementary tickets are available by contacting Ag United at firstname.lastname@example.org or 605-336-3622. Sponsors of the annual luncheon include: Central Famers Cooperative, Farm Credit Services of America, CHS Eastern Farmers, Raven Industries, South Dakota Wheat Growers, Eide Bailly, Paulsen Marketing, Tri-State Neighbor, Glacial Lakes Energy, United Tent and Convention, Farm Bureau Financial, The Printing Center.
