April value of U.S. beef, pork exports soars

U.S. beef and pork exports had an impressive month in April, according to statistics compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation and released recently by USDA. U.S. beef and beef variety meat export value topped April, 2009 levels by 27 percent, and were about 10 percent higher than in April, 2003, the last year of “pre-mad cow disease” market access. April beef and variety meat exports totaled 182.6 million pounds, valued at $311.3 million.

The April value of pork and pork variety meat exports was seven percent over April, 2009. reaching its highest level since November, 2008. In volume the pork exports in April hit 344.4 million pounds, valued at $400.95 million. F
