New GIPSA comment period ends on June 12
USDA’s Grain Inspection, Packers & Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) has again delayed the implementation of the fair practices rule that would strengthen the Packers & Stockyards Act and reduce the burden for family farmers and ranchers who are harmed by a meat packing or processing company’s anti-competitive and unfair practices.
For the third time, the USDA is seeking public comments on this crucial marketplace safeguard that would help farmers and ranchers by making it easier to hold packers and processors accountable for unfair and abusive trade practices. However, the way this new comment period was established erases every comment that has been submitted to date. Even if you’ve commented in the past, we encourage you to submit another comment.
We have been fighting for nearly a decade for enforcement of the Packers & Stockyards Act, and we can’t stop now.
The new comment period is currently underway and it is more important now than ever to speak up for fair and competitive markets. We only have until June 12, 2017 to make sure our voices are heard.
Taking action is quick and easy.
